It’s about time the league relaxed the rules on artificial pitches the technology is so much better these days. I was watching a match at Scarborough recently and you couldn’t tell the difference. Installed it could also be used for training purposes

 

This could be the start of our dominance in the football world.

 

If only we'd had several bonus windfalls of cash over the last 7 years or so that we could have put towards a lasting legacy.

 

I've said the same for a long time but unfortunately too many people who have the power to change this are stuck in their old ways with no intention of looking at them to realise how much better they are than the old days of the likes of QPR's plastic pitch. It not only affects clubs in the EFL but any non-league clubs who are considering it have to a wary that the next season they may have to rip it up which then not only costs them money to rip up a lay a new pitch but also loses a much needed facility for the local community. We are so far behind other countries in terms of amount of 3G pitches due to the cost of them and local authorities not being able to afford them, what better than a club being able to have one at their stadium that teams from U8's up to the 1st team can use as well as other grassroots clubs.

 

Why can't our current owner do that?

Serious question. Apart from not owning them, what is wrong with our training facilities? I've only driven past but look fine to me.

 

The question was who has that kind of money - the obvious answer is our owner.

Good money after bad? Investing in the club that you own, building the club, investing in an asset - but the real reason is he doesn't want to be here, he wants to sell up and he doesn't want to put anymore of his money in.

@wetherbywhaler fails to answer this when he makes comments like who has 5m to invest in a training ground etc. Our owner does!

So the main question should be why isn't our owner wanting to invest in something he owns?

Stick of people dancing round subjects hence why the club gets no one.

If Mr Rupp doesn't want to be here or invest in the club then he needs to sell, its as simple as that!

 

Rubbish, since the Premiership days they have been upgraded as @borderlescott posted, Gym, swimming pool, treatment room, canteen, several outside pitches and the recently relaid 4G pitch.

 

Completely agree. Building our own training ground would materially improve the value of the club. Its not dead money. We could also rent out a portion of the facility to other local sports clubs and use it as an extra revenue stream.

On a similar basis, buying the ground and sorting the pitch properly are investments in the critical infrastructure of the club. Assets that sit on the balance sheet and grow the value of the club.

He clearly doesn't want to do it. Which is fine, in a sense. But then, if he realizes he's bought into something he didn't understand, sell up and move on.

 

If we owned the Apperley bridge facilities they would still be under water

 

You and I both know that ain't going to happen, the Valley Parade pitch is IMO a bigger priority than Rawdon Meadows and even above both of those is a playing squad that can get us promoted.
Our present owner could afford to do both but will he.

 

We obviously wouldn't build new facilities on a piece of land that floods.

 

I accept all that but as I have said before as a business we can’t afford it and under this chairman no money will be invested in infrastructure. If as @Fordy117 suggests he sells up unless we are taking over by wealthy owners who are prepared to put money in with no return we will be run on similar lines to what Rhodes and Lawn did with any spare money going to the team. That is the reality

 

Richmond looked into training facilities down Apperley Bridge but it was knocked back because it flooded on occasions, the last time it happen and the team couldn't train down there was around 3/4 years ago, the present training facilities are more than ample, great if our owner was a serious football man with the club at heart but most accept he will not invest in new training facilities, hopefully he will pay for the pitch re-doing properly this time as we have no Rahic getting it done on the cheap.
