Adam Chicksen vs Conor Wood: Statistics

Sorry Jon but that’s just a load of rubbish. Those stats mean didly as you are comparing apples with pears.

Firstly, in the appearances where you have listed Wood as playing, how many of those were at left-back? He’s played in a fair few games according to those stats, yet he’s only actually started 11 times for us in the league.

Secondly, although the defence have kept clean sheets, how many crosses have come from the attacking team’s right side? That’s the type of stat we need here. It’s ok the likes of Caddis, McGowan, O’Connor clear the danger or make last gasp blocks, but that doesn’t show how much teams create chances from Chicksen/Wood’s side.

Now, if you or anyone else wants to compile a list of all the goals conceded and where the play started, i.e. left, right, middle, then your argument may have more substance

And again you insist that “ALL the metric data” means Wood shouldn’t start. Where is the ACTUAL evidence? The figures you have provided, means diddly in this argument, as many have already explained.

All folks are saying is that Chicksen has been caught out a fair few times this season. Some led to goals conceded, others were cleared by his team mates. He shirks tackles and rarely, if ever, it’s out the cross. Fans simply want Wood to be given the same chances that Chicksen has got. We have a better style of play these days and the defence looks a LITTLE more solid. Why shouldn’t fans want to see how Wood would do in the same position?

 

Yep. I noticed the 44 and corrected before you posted.
I've also looked at the points total needed for survival in the last 10 seasons. It's near 50 or thereabouts. 52 has been the highest, 50 appears frequently. 2011/12 season was highly unusual in that just 44 points saw a team safe. That won't happen this season. 52 points for safety averages out at just over 1 point per game. This season we might need nearer 54 or 55 but that's a guess.

 

Taken from Transfermarkt mate. If they are wrong, as you suggest, then that website is wrong.

According to that site, Chicksen has started 11 times in L1 and only 5 times as a left-back.

 

But it’s not a badly formed impression that he gets beat on crosses. It’s reality. As I’ve said, if you can compile USEFUL stats to show how many goals are scored from our left-side for both players, I’m willing to read them. But comparing a player with SIX league starts at left-back against Chicksen’s record is a non-starter for me.

Don’t get me wrong, Chicksen’s criticism is OTT but that still doesn’t negate the fact that fans want to see Wood getting the same chances as Chicksen

 

You’re correct, Transfermarkt hasn’t updated the last 3 games. I apologise on that one.

However, of the 14 L1 starts only 6 of them were at left-back. You’re saying he doesn’t deserve another chance in that position because when he played there the defence as a whole was gash? So how did the likes of NKP, McGowan and O’Connor continue to play, despite them being in the same sides that had goals put past us?

As I’ve said, the only REAL way of comparing the players is to watch every game again and count the number of crosses not cut out when either player is playing at left-back. Even that won’t be the true picture, but it’s a darn sight more accurate than just looking at the win column or the goals concede chart..!

You should realise is the symbol of a failures during the last season - an example of the incompetence of Rahic/Abbott etc

The fact he's a decent mid-table, at worst, LB is of course not relevant and silly of you to think so

 

Stats, facts, reality just dont seem to get through to 50% of the population.

 

Without doubt Chicksen is a scapegoat and is nowhere near as bad as some make out I do think Wood was unlucky to lose out when Chicksen came back from injury. He now seems to have found a niche in midfield

 

I'm not liking all this agreeing!! But you are spot on. I've just post elsewhere that first third of the season gave us just 10 points and we've taken 21 from the next third - and even then the first three of them yielded just a point

 

You could take a couple of performances any season you wish and make the same accusation

I'll give you one, the first L1 play-off season when we allowed Colchester, who would be relegated, to do the double over us.

There'll be others and I bet Luton, Barnsley etc will have them

It's whether a team has the ability to bounce back (Colchester ended up been the last team to beat us at home for 18 months) clearly we now have this ability once again - the two away matches we would have lost early season has shown that

But of course, there is bound to be another poor performance as well

Who mentioned booing? There are some ‘fans’ that will do that regardless of what threads are created on here. Jon was trying to bring some balance (IMO failed, but the idea was fair) to the debate

 

I think we only needs evidence of our own eyes Wood has been decent in most of the performances I have seen
