Agree with you. He isn't a wing back. The one thing his return did show though was that having pace on his side gave Halliday more opportunities. When Ridehalgh played there, opponents blocked Halliday knowing Ridehalgh was too slow. So, pace in those wing backs is important.

 

It's always about now when everyone compares and panics. It's the week before training starts pretty much every summer when the squad assembling ramps up and everyone starts worrying when club X brings in one or two talents.

Then like clockwork, the manager will do an interview saying something along the lines of "deals don't become available until later into the window" or when they've had a look at players in training etc. Annoying this weird part of the window.

 

I remember people saying exactly the same thing last season. Do you remember our recruitment last summer? Can you name one player we brought in that strengthened us? Pattison might have done if he'd stayed fit but other than that?
I hope very much that this summer will be different and we will bring in the quality needed for us to finish top 3, but it isn't looking promising so far imo.

 

Remember what Platt said when he signed for them? His decision was based on feeling they were the club most likely to go places in the long term and that he'd been left in no doubt that they knew what they needed to get to the next level. He wasn't wrong was he?
Meanwhile, we sign their cast off.

What’s been so wrong with our recruitment then compared to the rest of league 2?
You have no idea on the quality of player we’ve signed and apart from a left back we are pretty stacked in every other position. What exactly is the problem?

 

Personally I think because we have been used to wholesale change's in the last few years it appears we aren't bringing anyone in certainly not in numbers simply because we do have an inflated squad.
Giving players three year contracts was always going to be a stumbling block when negotiating player exits.
Plenty of time to bring in but we still need to shift a few to balance the numbers.

 

He was hardly likely to say " I came for the money guv. No prospects but at least i'll be richer " Was he?

 

I wonder how Crawley fans felt about their signings at this point last year?

We have the equivalent of 6 signings with the four new signings and Pattison who big things were expected last year until his injury and Young who many on here thought was the second coming. We finished the season very strongly and we have every chance of continuing that

There is just over 2 months until the end of window. Let's assess and mark our recruitment then instead of comparing a week after the window has officially opened

 

What’s nonsense about it Young and Pattison hardly played last season they will be available this time along with the four signings we made with a couple more we have every chance after the way we finished last season

 

The problem is that as you say, we're stacked in every position with a lot of very average players and the players we've brought in, bar Sarcevic don't look like they'll improve on that.

Perhaps you think they will, I'm happy to accept that opinion but I certainly won't be seated by it as the defensive signings look incredibly poor as things stand.

Hopefully I'm wrong but I don't see either Baldwin or Byrne being any better than Taylor and if I'm right, with only 4 centre halves currently on the books, we could be bang in trouble early on.

 

Thought you rated Stubbs,Kelly is still here he was playing well. Johnson has had a very good career so far. Byrne did very well at Hartlepool and was signed three times by a good manager in Challinor. I think there will be another to come possibly Oyegoke. We were fairly solid defensively last season and I don’t think we are any weaker and will be stronger elsewhere

 

I'm 80 and think I'm better than Taylor.

 

Don't forget Oliver coming back into the squad after playing at a higher level. Him and Young up front will win us the league.
