Played in the same team as Ian as a youngster, along with his brother Howard who went on to play cricket for Yorkshire.

His mum and dad had a shop on New Hey rd in East Bowling when I was a kid and if I went in to get some spice he was sometimes behind the counter serving, making my day and a young me totally starstruck!
Many years later in the mid 90's as a Landscape gardener I used to do Denis Atkins garden in Eccleshill and his daughter Jill's at Thackley, who was the England women hockey team captain at the time. Appearing at the Olympics and world championships.
    Good memories ;)

Look on the City website at all the support staff, even down to canteen workers. I used to work on ground in my school holidays.

There was the manager and a trainer and a part time physio. The players lapped the pitch in training. Tom Flockett used to run backwards, occasionally impeding the other players, who'd curse him. He hardly tackled as a right back, merely backpeddaling, hoping the opponent would make a mistake. John McCole used to be at the back of the group recovering after a heavy night at the Duchess of Kent and urging his team mates to slow down so it wasn't obvious what he'd been up to. Then the players went on to the shale car park for some ball work and after training went to Norman's cafe on Manningham Lane for a spot of lunch.

Blimey. I can remember Abbott and Costello playing for us, but didn’t realise we’d had Hall and Oates as well!

Quite a few of the players worked there at the time. Used to 'window shop' there as a youngster to see them

Strange that I would be able to name most of those players from the 60s but struggle to identify today’s lot when I see their pictures l
