No more FA Cup replays

Between the top 6 there was a statistic that they have 1 replay every 5 years and that’s not guaranteed to be against a small club, so I’d absolutely say it is. If the small club wins and goes through winning prize money and gets an even bigger tie then I’m sure they won’t complain. Sorry but your post didn’t address most of my points. If this system had been in place in 2015 and we’d have beaten Reading on pens and gone to Wembley would you have been upset and asked for a replay at their place? Didn’t think so.

You’re the only one avoiding every point I make, if you wouldn’t want to take the semi final then you or anyone else who wouldn’t is being dishonest let’s be honest.

 

The elites are slowly taking everything away that is traditional in the UK, it’s not just football. Asset stripping left right and centre, legacies being banished to the history books. It’s how it is here now unfortunately. Unless there’s some kind of uprising (there never will be) you just have to sit and live with it. In football terms our only hope is the big six leave to the ESL and let us get on with our traditional pyramid, albeit with a lot less money which is the huge stumbling block.

Well this escalated quickly lol.

 

Its rare a 'minnow' ever gets drawn against a big club let alone gets a replay. I don't particularly agree with the decision to do away with replays but then football isn't the same as years ago and the FA cup isn't anywhere near the competition it used to be.

 

Just listen to Darragh McAnthony the Posh owner talking about winning the EFL trophy on his latest podcast. It’s a very lucrative tournament with excellent prize money and the day out at Wembley was fantastic. We’d have had a great day out if we’d seen off Wycombe.

 

It was take or leave it for me, just don’t see the outrage from some fans who are quick to say focus on the league etc.

You can’t have it both ways that some want, if you want this mythical replay against United you need to be prepared to go to Exeter on a Tuesday night and it be well attended. How many did we take a few year ago, about 100?

As you say the FA cup just isn’t what it was, United vs Liverpool in the league will get far higher viewing figures in the league or champions league than the FA cup. The authorities will take that into account.

They should have consulted the football league clubs though and it sucks how they went about it.

 

Could've been knocked out on pens v Millwall and never got to the Reading match..

Yes we know it isn’t what it used to be. There used to be the Milk Cup and the FA Cup and the league. Then the money took over football and it has ruined our traditional game. If you keep squeezing in more and more comps something has to give. As you say the way they have gone about it is just awful.

 

To add to the Man City thing.

The PL and the FA want to try to deflect the mess that is currently happening in the PL.

The PL decided to dock points from Everton and Forrest but nothing on Man City who have 115 charges. Everton and Forrest might stay up but it’s seemingly likely that Man City will win the league but a massive cloud hangs over the PL and Man CIty but the PL don’t want to tackle it.
Let’s play a game of deflecting and give other people something else to talk about.

It’s utter joke the decision to ban replays! The fans once again not being thought about.

 

Watching Sky sports news and I must say how impressed I was with Guardiola,Arteta and ten Hag managing to keep straight faces when talking about how sad they were with this decision.

 

It was inevitable given the similar decision on the League Cup a few seasons ago.....a cup which was specifically designed to be 2 legs to enhance the coffers of lower league teams drawn against higher league opponents....

Driven by Premier League fatcats who are already funded by royals, national countries and billionaires!! So much self interest!!
Started with the EPPP where the EFL were shafted to sign up to or not get the trickle down Sky money!

They are so hard done to with their massive squads, flights to and from games, warm weather training camps, fixture congestion, blah blah blah.....but hey they'll fly off for their pre-season games to make more money....god bless 'em all.

 

Or lost the replay, all ifs and buts. I’m sure most people would say that going to penalties increases the chance of an upset rather than decreases. What they should have done is get rid of extra time, it serves no one.

Did anyone complain about going to pens and no replay against Arsenal in the league cup? We’d never have been to a major cup final in my lifetime had we had to have a replay at the Emirates, I’m confident of that.

 

Its all semantics really isn't it, arguments for and against specific ties or non ties....for me its the overarching view that the PL do not value any football beneath them, begrudgingly give money to us lesser mortals. The PL money has completely broken football. Wages have completely spiralled, almost out of control in my opinion, in the lower leagues as a result of chasing the dream. All this does is compound the issue, rich clubs get richer whilst the rest of us look on....it won't be long before they vote for a closed shop like RL Super League.

 

Would be interesting to see the minutes from the meetings where the FA say everyone agreed to the change and who the 4 EFL representatives were.
