Just to add, Parker is saying Carlisle have admitted they have had a bid turned down for a player, and he is suggesting it could be Young, as City said they turned down another bid for him yesterday.

Really? If we've been awful in at least a third of our matches up to press, what gives you the confidence we can improve sufficiently to achieve the consistency required?

It obviously can't be the performances because they're as up and down as they ever were, it can't be the squad because we can't even find a settled team and it can't be the transfer window because we've openly said that we're more interested in moving players out.

I get that you'd like to be optimistic but right now there's not a great deal that gives genuine hope of enough future improvement to get anywhere near last year's position.

 

We are 14th for a reason, that position more than justified by performances on the pitch. And i don't put it down to individual players, its a kop out to blame the odd one when in reality the squad itself just isn't good enough.
To me the problem lies in the clubs inability to set realistic but ambitious goals due to us living the self sustaining dream at all costs. Next season will be our 6th back in league 2 and bar Hughes flirtation with the playoffs last season we haven't looked anything better than mid table mediocrity in all those seasons. Yet during that time we've had goodness knows how many players and managers you lose count.
As mentioned before the eleven on the pitch is the last part of the jigsaw, the ambition starts at the very top. As Stockport and Wrexham currently show, when you point the ship in the right direction the momentum kinda flows with it. We're just never pointed in the right direction, like a ship without a map that relies on the deckhands to find the destination.
And i get impression Alexander is beginning to realise it.

Perhaps there's people at the club that don't want promotion, as daft as it sounds.

Yes it's increased income but before that it's probably another 50% onto the wage budget and spiraling costs elsewhere.

Perhaps, we're comfortable in league two, safe in the knowledge we can run it sustainably with no issues where we are.

You know what…..I agree….If no bid or insufficient bid comes in………..He joins and participates like a professional or trains with the junior for 2 seasons ( I would deliberately take up our option of another year. ) Then he would be an ex-footballer. It’s his choice.

Dafter things have happened. The club is living within its means with an unprecedented number of season ticket holders and as such there seems to be no pressure upon the owner to sell the product on the pitch as it currently sells itself enough to cover the bills. And yet despite yet a new manager and the rising of a new dawn, its taken a couple of months before the apathy has set back in. I don't blame Alexander, he needs to start afresh next season where he can set new goals and targets with his own players but you get the feeling it doesn't matter as he's up against the same problems all the other managers have faced and one or two of them have commented on.

Don’t let the club pull the wool over your eyes Kev, they want rid and the few quid it would generate as much as he wants to leave. He will be gone soon enough, just need the right bid.
