It’s turning into a depressing season but even so I don’t see us actually going down.

Just feels like there is still a malaise hanging over the players and the club as a whole from the failure of the Mark Hughes experiment. Like everyone knows this season is already a flop and a downgrade on last year, players managers and fans are all jaded.

Needs something to give the place a lift and an overhaul of the squad in the next two windows.

How many points do we genuinely believe we will get between now and the window opening? No joke, we could be very close to the bottom 2 on Jan 1st.

    Accrington (H)
    FGR (A)
    Salford (H)
    Gillingham (A)
    Doncaster (A)
    Morecambe (H)
    Stockport (H)

Could throw in Crewe (A) on NYD as there won't be new signings ready to go for Jan 1st. Genuinely struggling to see 6 points out of 21 even 24 available with Crewe included. It's not just trying to get our crap out the door, it could well be convincing talent to come for a 4th tier relegation scrap.

Don't worry, Gent will sort out the overhaul.

Despite my post, I actually agree with you both, that although we are heading into 'relegation scrap' territory, we are not a relegation side. We have regressed from last year, but we should still be, in my opinion, a comfortable mid-table side. With last year's Cook and Lewis performances, we should be threatening the playoff positions, but I don't think even then we would be good enough to think about autos.

We have not recovered from the playoff hangover, and rather than the tweaks to players and tactics needed we went for greater changes that have not worked out. Still, the side shows flashes of its capabilities -- e.g. Newport, 2nd half today -- and if GA can get us to do that more consistently, we should get back to being comfortable at worst.

I think talk of being in a relegation fight is a bit of an overreaction. If we create the amount of chances we did in the 2nd half especially today once Cook gets 1 goal I think he'll go on a bit of a run. Next 2 games are big, get 4 points from them and we could be around midtable. After that we have a bit of a break which I think could be good for Alexander to get time on the training ground and with 4 games played plus the EFL Trophy game he will have a good idea of the players.

I expect this season to be another low points to stay up with 45 points keeping you up so as long as we have more points than games played we'll be fine.

We will stay up but we shouldn’t be even having this conversation. So, we are and that’s why heads need to roll and it can’t be the manager’s - AGAIN!

We only created those 2nd half chances because Notts had the game already won and had one eye on avoiding injury they took their foot off the gas
I don't believe we will go down (hopefully) but it could be more comfortable shall we say
Looking at our last 6 results and the teams we have lost to and the way in which we lost must add some doubt

Why? Because a team 4-0 up with the match won took their foot off the gas a bit.

    Wake up.

I have highlighted what's wrong with this post and this mentality in general.

We cannot rely on ifs, buts and maybes. We need results which we are simply not achieving on the pitch. It's that simple. We're heading towards the relegation zone.

I'm not naive enough to not realise that they didn't intend on attacking much after half time. I've seen us in similar scenarios before and still not manage to muster even half a decent attacking performance. Notts tried to see the game out, of course they did but we made it far more uncomfortable than it should have been for them.

You don't win any prizes for stating the bleeding obvious that they didn't approach the second half in the same way they did the first but you are being s bit unfair if you can't give us credit for the fist we made of it second half.

Right, and we're supposed to celebrate/take solace in the fact that we showed up in a match that was already over by half time?

They don't deserve any credit after being 4-0 down at Half Time. If we're willing to accept that then we're heading straight to the National League.

As for those idiots who stayed behind to clap at the end. Shame on them.

I'm not celebrating anything but the second half performance gave me some confidence that we are too good to get dragged into a relegation battle. I'm not sure why that's so controversial. Teams 4-0 up at half time don't just stop playing. Football doesn't work like that. The manager will have set his team out to see the game out comfortably and keep a clean sheet. He wasn't happy at all with how the second half panned out.

We performed well in the second half. I can see you're frustrated and you therefore want to be all angry but with a rational head on anyone will tell you we played well second half.

I think you're missing the point. The aim of the game is to pick up points over 90 minutes, not play well for half a match. And when you play well in the half of the match that was all but a dead rubber, it kind of devalues that said half a match.

I agree we played well in the second half, but until we play like that starting from 0-0 it's kind of deemed null and void.

I understand your point. I'm not treating our second half display as a gauge for a normal game. I understand the tactical implications of being 4-0 up at half time but that was not the second half that Notts County had set up for and we have to take some credit for that.

It was the first half what mattered and that was a team facing relagation

How many times do we have to reset? Nothing comes of this constant changing. Rupp and co need to get a grip the club is like an hamster on its wheel running but getting nowhere to the frustration of fans. There are some fundamental flaws in how Rupp and co have run this club - that manifest themselves on the field of play.

I honestly can’t answer that question. We are still very fragile.
