Personally I will always favour a permanent signing over a loan - unless it is one of the proven Andrew Davies mould.

That said, we did pretty much in the loan market last season and got a good tune out of Wright, Banks and Crichlow.

 

Immediate term Dave I don’t think we may see much of him. Getting him up to the level of fitness may take 2-3 weeks perhaps?

Then it’s a case of where does he fit? Right sided of a three? Where does Pointon sit as a result?

 

Hopefully Pointon gets a starting place tonight and a real chance to impress and make it difficult for Hughes to ignore.

I do fear for his opportunities now we have signed Wilson - and Chapman and Gilliead set to return.

 

Up until a week ago I was about 80% certain Pointon would be leaving on loan, still had a bit of hope he'd get a shot but after this deal and the Chapman ban not happening, I'm 99.9% sure that Pointon wont get minutes in this team.

Shame after pre-season, but he's just so far down the pecking order, especially in 6 or 7 weeks time when Chapman & Oliver take 2 of the matchday 18 slots, that it's tough to see how he'd even get bench slots.

 

Loan him out. Until Jan. That’s the sensible thing to do if he won’t get game time. He needs to play.

 

Send him to Swindon.

 

Well there are EFL Trophy games coming up which he should be starting so maybe kept around for them - its a chance to stake a claim for the match day 18. It has just got tougher and will get even harder...

That means Kelly, Taylor, Odusina, Osadebe, Wilson, Pointon, Derbyshire don't get in the 18. There will always be 1 or 2 unavailable but looks like too many in front of him.

I deffo see Rowe and Youmbi going out.

 

Hopefully, but i still cant see him starting in the EFL trophy to be honest. If it was my choice, i'd have all the youth involved in those games but it rarely happens.

All 3 group games are in the space of 5 weeks from mid Oct to mid Nov, can see those being Chapmans main chance to get minutes from the start given he's had no pre-season, same for Oliver. Wilson, Osadebe, Smith too for those attacking roles to get minutes from the start especially for Wilson and Osadebe, perhaps even Derbyshire.

 

He did okay in Holland, Vukcic.

I can't see Gordon coming when league one clubs are interested and he's making the bench. A posted a conversation I had with a Palace fan at work some pages ago and how he reckoned they want to stay close to him and develop him.

 

And he’s as much in the know as everyone else so time will tell

Funny Sergio , I thought that last night. I can however only see Gilly now going backwards in the pecking order unless there are serious injuries to our midfielder contingent.

The challenge now, for quite a few will be getting a starting slot, until suspensions and injuries kick in over winter?
