Cook this season is possibly maybe obviously you could say is going to struggle, with stats like his for last season he was always going to be a marked man, but with Pattison now on board along with Walker this might not be a totally bad thing as it may allow these two to score the goals needed when defences are over concentrating on Cook

 

We look so much better with a back four and the sooner we get back to that with the players to play it the better.

 

It's so frustrating that us mere fans who know nothing can clearly see this while our manager with tons of football knowledge doesn't

You absolutely don't know better than Mark Hughes.

 

I will give Hughes credit for trying the proven 343/352 - and I will give him further credit for switching it up when it isnt working. He came under a lot of criticism last season for not having a 'plan b' when things wern't going our way.

I dont see him dropping the 343/352 any time soon. But it looks like he is willing to revert to the old 4 at the back if he feels the need too.

 

He only reverted to a back 4 on Saturday when Kelly had to go off through injury. Hardly plan B, it was forced on him.

I think that was based on one comment by Kompany or may have been made by him or someone saying that they thought Kompany may have said it.

Anyway, my point is if you Google the lad you'll find quite a lot of articles about him which is unusual for these younger kids.

 

He could have brought on Ridehalgh and kept it as a 3. I think Ridehlaghs versatility is why we don't have a recognised CB on the bench.

 

Certainly was better. Having McD in there helps him? I like McD though, he’s classy so far.

 

He had a role to play and he seemed to know what it was, and executed it well.
I think he’s been a victim of a muddled formation that doesn’t suit the players so far this season, like a lot of them.

Was very happy with Smallwood. He looked like being dropped gave him a kick up the backside and he was putting it all in closing them down infront of the Sunwin, Kop end. Much better after ‘Morecambe gate’

 

Never heard of Wilson but he sounds exciting from the blurb - fast, tricky winger. Let’s hope he’s decent. Was at Newcastle so must be okay, hopefully

 

Now depends on which formation we plan on playing for what else we need. If it’s 3 at the back then definitely another defender. Either way I think another striker would be ideal but we’re now well stocked in wide areas as I’d like to see Pointon given a chance.

 

Agree, I don't think we do or can know better overall, but we can disagree with Hughes's thinking.
Harry Lewis was quite clear in the podcast that we had started over from a formation point of view and had to learn it from scratch, plus that learning was ongoing. There were also mixed feelings on it within the club, and fans maybe didn't understand what we were trying to do.
Personally, after a nearly season, I think we should have addressed weaknesses, not gone for a whole new plan.
Hopefully, Mr Hughes will prove he knows best.
Happy with Adam Wilson's signing, as we had gone from 3 available wingers when we had Wright to zero with Chapman's injury and Banks loan ending.

Are you saying Ryan sparks knows more about football than Paul Scally. Paul scally who led little Gillingham in divisions higher than us throughout Sparks tenure and before?

He left after one bad year, whilst Sparks hangs around longer than a kebab fart despite year after year of failure.
