I would think for this to come off the council will be talking to City as it’s not viable without them. Gordon Gibb lease expires in 5 years and it’s not sustainable for City to renew for another 25 years.

Their only hope seemed to be Mandy/Marwan Koukash taking over?

It’s a sorry state of affairs. Getting smoked by Halifax et al.

Featherstone showed them how they should be run - exploiting dual registration etc, but now it all seems very dull, and costs are being cut?

The hatred for Nigel Wood is reminiscent of us and Edin, or at least it is getting that way.

Whilst it is a pipe dream and very much pie in the sky, it would be great for Bradford South and would give the surrounding pubs a much needed boost!

It will never happen - but I hope it does!

    Think the koucash ships sailed

He's tried buying the club twice already

Each time the rfl scuppered the deal for there preferred bidder

Guess who was head of rfl then

Guess who's ceo of bulls now

Its rotten to the core ... he put chalmers in charge of the bulls and the rfl even loaned money to chalmers to buy it that the clubs only just paying back next season

All while billionaire koucash was waiting in the wings

That's my thoughts. Not a chance this plan gets approves for Bulls to use a quarter of it at best twice a month with a hope of getting some cup and international games. This only gets off the ground with City involvement.

Potential for what? If you check the links I posted, you will see that the club with the highest attendance in Super League, is not able to attract as many people as City!
It is the Saints with an average attendance of 13,711!
As the two links have pointed out the game is losing spectators.
Yes The Grand Final can attract far higher numbers, but that is a single game. The new Supa Odsal would not be big enough.
    Once again potential for what?

Full overview of averages attendances so far (May 2022)

    Saints 13,711 up from 11,910 (15% increase)

    Leeds 12,315 down from 12,727 (3% decrease)

    Wigan 10,815 down from 11,432 (5% decrease)

Hull FC 10,601 down from 11,478 (7% decrease)

    Castleford 8,932 up from 7,253 (23% increase)

    Warrington 8,769 down from 10,648 (17% decrease)

Hull KR 8,474 up from 8,220 (3% increase)

    Catalans 7,459 down from 10,259 (27% decrease)

    Huddersfield 5,501 up from 5,226 (5% increase)

Not that many pubs! A few in Wibsey. No nearby railway station. Low Moor has no connection with North of Bradford! Just the M606 to take away supporters to the ground without actually going to Bradford.

At least if it was built, away team coaches could get to odsal without paying the clean air charge.

I wonder if city will be forking out the £25 levied onto the away team for going within the city centre boundary

Never happen, even if they get approval and the £50M grant, they still need to stump 50 more from in their words, public and private investors. Although, would you even go as far as submitting if you genuinely didn't already have conversations with money people? Surely must have some sense of confidence otherwise why bother?

In terms of the area, tough to judge because if a plan like this goes ahead, you'd also expect development requests in that area to be put forward to for more bars and shops. Things like public transport I'd imagine would end up being extra bus services like Leeds put on for Elland Road or Headingley on game days as they aren't exactly transport friendly either.

Don't think pubs are as big a deal to be honest. Pre game these days, outside the odd smaller place within a 10 min walk of VP, the majority of foot traffic seems to be on North Parade which is about a 15 min walk away? Even if you went to Wibsey, reckon the foresters is probably a good 20 walk from Odsal, not too different but there are closer ones and as I say, if a development like this happens you'd think over the coming years, a few more might spring up. All huge ifs, but I just can't see how this plan is even given a moments consideration without City moving in too.

If this scheme were ever to see the light of Day of course city would be involved I would be surprised if there hadn’t been informal talks it’s inconceivable that the council would put money into professional sport without Bradford city

Why? What have Bradford City ever invested in recently? Maybe @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler will help you answer.

So lets move from Valley parade , a 25000 seater stadium on the edge of the city centre . 16000+ fans travelling across to the edge of the city , depriving all the bars and shops on north parade and Manningham lane of vast amounts of income.
The Doncaster game i heard one pub took almost £7000 between 12 and 3 and ran out of beer.
Are the council not pedestranising North parade to help the bars and area. The only people that will make from this , will be the stadium owners , as there is only a couple of pubs around and the top house is tiny, can not cram a few thousand in there.
Also did the roof on no1 court at wimbledon cost £85million. Pie in the sky again from the council.

I honestly don’t see how the hoards of 30,000 spectators would fit in the Forresters @Bronco@Bronco causing drunken rampages on Wibsey Roundabout?

Anyone reviewing these applications will have a good laugh at the councils projections and file this in the bin.

The costs have been under estimated and the benefits massively over exaggerated. Back of the beer mat economics.

As someone who regularly visits Odsal to watch motorsport I sincerely hope this fantasy goes the way of the other 'schemes' proposed for Odsal.
The last time the so called 'superdome' white elephant was on the cards a successful and profitable sport - stock car racing - was kicked out.
Fast forward 30 years and Odsal was derelict and slowly rotting away.
It took a stock car promoter to get it back open and running again. Now it's once again a viable multisport venue the council wake up and cone up with this fantasy.
Leave well alone Bfd Council. Oval racing operates across the UK without bailouts and taxpayer cash. Odsal should be left to be run as a motorsport/rugby venue. Stock car racing operates within totally realistic budgets and if they can get it reopened and running again then leave well alone.
