Postcodes are not an indication of which council area you live in. They are simply used to show which main postal hub your letters come from. I live in the Bradford authority but have a Leeds postcode. Settle has a Bradford postcode. Woodhouse Grove is in Leeds. Similarly, phone numbers are no indication of council area.

I understand the postcode situation, the towns which are in Bradford MBC such as Menston, Burley in Wharfedale, Ilkley and Addingham all have LS Postcodes. It is when the actual address of both the school and JCT is given as Bradford, and from memory the boundary sign is to the North of both . As I said it makes little difference to me.

I believe the actual Welcome to Leeds" border sign is just above the turn off for Apperley Bridge Station.

And todays most pointless discussion is... Postal boundaries.

    I, thank you.

Very true. Ilkley being a prime example, having a Leeds postcode and paying rates to Bradford. The Blue Pig at Fagley also used to have a Leeds phone number.

Essentially the city you are in is the one in which you pay your Council Tax to as they are responsible for your services. Therefore Woodhouse Grove is in Leeds.

Only because thats a mobile. If you had a landline it would probably be 0161 which says you live in Manchester (or at least the part of Greater Manachester covered by that code)

My office is in Cross Hills. Council tax is paid to Craven DC, it's well inside the North Yorks County boundary but postally it's in West Yorkshire, and the post town is Keighley. Ten feet left out of the front door and I would be in Glusburn. Confusing or what !

No, but I do know that Morrisons head office is about ten yards inside the Bradford Boundary and Berwick Rangers, whilst based in Northumberland, play in the Scottish Leagues.

It's very confusing. And then you have health service areas, social service areas, fire service, police, ambulances, water, transport etc, all different and frequently overlapping. My great aunt who lived in Birkenshaw was in Bradford for the NHS and Kirklees for Social Care. It caused endless confusion and not a little buck passing when she was incapacitated and in need of homecare. You couldn't design a more inefficient system of local government than the one we've had in this country since 1974.

I'll scour the Bradford area for you (Excluding where Woodhouse Grove is obviously)

weirdly the side of the road going up the hill away from Bradford is still in Bradford till past the school. Left hand side from the dotted line is Bradford , right hand side is Leeds. That includes who has to clear the road of snow

Whether its Leeds or Bradford I couldn’t really care. I just wish they’d hurry up with those roadworks at Greengates. Think City will be back in the PL before they are done.

Yep left hand side going towards Rawdon have Bradford postcodes and come under Bradford, right hand side (Bronte School and Woodhouse Grove) have Bradford post codes but come under Leeds.
Incidentally the physical boundary between Leeds and Bradford is just below the entrance to Bronte School, if you look on the pavement on either side there is a stone with a line down it - that’s the boundary!!
With regards to highways left hand side of road Bradford right Leeds!
With regards to blue light the demarcation I think is Woodlands, right hand side comes under Weetwood, left hand side Keighley? And below Woodlands Eccleshill.
BT uses natural boundaries eg River Aire one side 01274 other side Leeds 0113.
Phew glad I got that all out. Has the season finished yet!

Best one is the Princess pub up in Little London. If your car gets broken into in their car park but you say you are at the pub the police for the wrong station will attend due to the boundary being the middle of the road again
