I certainly wouldn't say Watt is shit, or that he's a scapegoat for anything. But I have to say that I don't think he's pulled up any trees so far this season. I reckon with Songo'o in and when Sutton comes back from injury then his place as a first choice pick is in jeopardy. Cooke does the passing game so much more consistently and Sutton is a better ball winner and breaks forward at pace. I'm not sure that an occasionally accurate 40 yard crossfield pass will be enough to get Watt the nod above other CMs competing for limited places.

 

Hes done what he’s needed to do and fair play to the lad. He’s still wayward in a few ways but hes done the opposite of letting us down thats for sure. More game time sees him getting better imho.

 

Sutton is another who gave away too many silly free kicks around our penalty area last season.

Sutton offers high energy but personally not a big fan, he won’t let us down but he can barely pass wind let alone a ball. He is good at carrying the ball forward though, but he’s another who gives silly free kicks away.

 

I disagree about Sutton. I think he has calmed down the silly free kick part of his game and is more controlled than when he first arrived. He can also play a killer pass. There were occasions last season when he played superb defence splitting passes to put our strikers through one on one (not that we converted them!). It will be interesting to see who Adams prefers. I actually think Watt himself has looked better this season since he stopped trying to play the Hollywood pass every time he got the ball

 

Not occasionally accurate the best in the division last season

 

I remember reading that stat thinking it can't have been right. His passing at times last season was terrible, especially the long Hollywood pass. Cookes passing was far better last season.

 

I think people see what they want to see Watts long passing was very good. Less good with the short stuff

 

Regardless of whether AOC was a good player or not, him leaving VP was the right move for player and club. He was always a mistake or two away from being the scapegoat for a poor defensive performance whether it was his fault or not. I don’t think he had the complete trust of the fans after that first season where we were relegated and he had the captains’ armband go all itchy on him.

At their best AOC, POC, Staunton and Canavan would be a reasonably strong set of four centre halves to pick two from. I’d take AOC over Foulds.

 

Yup. But not so much this season, from what I've observed.

 

I agree. He can also be very dangerous running at defenders at pace, and he has a decent shot on him.

 

I’ll have to take your word for it can’t remember us being one on one with the keeper much last season, we were barely having 5 shots a game at time including off target. For me he’d be better at RB I don’t rate his technical ability enough in midfield. Neither did a struggling Scunthorpe side enough to try keep him. I have to agree with Park on this one Watts passing range is underrated at this level, suppose with so much football to view on TV people get used to expecting everything 50 yard pass to come off. He did some great balls to FCD against Stevenage and a few decent ones against Mansfield as well.

 

Agree about the right back issue. I think if Sutton was given a full season there to develop he could blossom into a very good lower league full back. He's got all the attributes, he just needs the positional development and awareness that comes from coaching.
