The club was in a pretty good position - but we had stagnated in League One (think had 3 attempts at promotion) and we had no real saleable assets (could argue a few quid for Mezza) and no decent youth on the horizon.

We relied pretty heavily on the loan market - Burke, Cullen, Evans, Reid, Proctor were all part of that squad and players that could have improved and offered something like Leigh and Morris were not really given a chance.

For me the coach isn't the problem.. it's the meddling know it all controlling him that's the issue

Considering how many times edin said he wanted someone who was a success with younger players, this appointment is a total contradiction

A great and well expressed post @Onside@Onside - The most telling point being the one I've highlighted. Which in itself is as aged as prostitution, but let's face it, as fans we've been regarded as low class hookers for the last 15 months, as Edin appears to pimp us out with his veiled commitments. I'm all for progress, but this move is about as slow as you can get.
I doubt and hope City will not be relegation fodder, but may come close ! All we can really hope for are at least four quality signings before KO, in August. :)

It’s player development that counts at that level at least one made the debut for the first team. And only people within the club know how good he was at the job

I think sometimes who the manager is often gets overstated. Grayson has 4 promotions on his record and was heavily backed in all of them, Steve Evans has a number of promotions on his record and was heavily backed in all of them, Darren Ferguson has 3 promotions with Peterborugh- heavily backed in all of them. If you compare that with the with the 'crap' managers, who take over at a small club, with a small budget and inevitably finish in a low position, fans rate them as not being very good, yet just like the above and the majority of successful managers out there, they have only done what was expected of them. Grayson has a superior CV than McCall, was he any better at getting results than him whilst here? No, because he still had the same crap players at his disposal. Point I'm making is managers are only as good as the resources/team they have so we can analyse this appointment as much as we want, but let's not get away from the main focus. The most important part of our success next season is and always will be the players we bring into the club. Very few managers, no matter how impressive their CV may be, achieve success with poor players on a shoestring budget and do it for a sustained period of time. I'm fact, I'm struggling to think of anyone.

I completely understand the pessimism behind the appointment and I agree with the majority of it, but build a good quality team for next season and we have a chance.

Parky got promotion to the championship with Colchester on nothing. He got us promoted with us on an average budget. I know he is probably an exception to the rule but it can be done

We pushed the boat out during our history making season and It was widely reported that we had a top 3 budget. Given the team we had in comparison to our other league 2 seasons, I'm prepared to believe that too. The key phrase in my post was "and do it for a sustained period of time". You can have a poor budget and an average team and fluke it once, maybe even twice. More times than not though you are going to go back to your natural level.

Well the dust has settled and we have got in place what Rahic wanted all along
I'm not going to judge Collins and his coaching staff just yet as anything could pan out.
Take Heckinbottom for instance, an instant success at Barnsley after being promoted from coaching the development squad, similar to Collins in that respect.
My only problem is why this couldn't have been done weeks ago if Rahic believes in Collins and Drury so much. I believe Collins didn't even apply, which makes the end process seem such a panic or last resort appointment because nobody else would buy Into Rahic's model.
Look forward to seeing how the rest of recruitment pans out now

I don’t think it is “flunking” it at all. It’s about ability and getting the best out of what you’ve got. Of course money talks but teams can and do punch above their weight there are plenty of examples.

As I said in my post "very few do it" which you agree with, so I'm not sure where you're going with this one. As you say, "money talks".

All down to key players though. The Gary Jones/ Nahki Wells & Andrew Davies effect here and at Colchester he had Iwelumo, Mark Yeates and Jamie Cureton. Not the be all and end all of a promotion campaign but certainly a big part of it.

He used loans very well at Colchester.

I find it hard to understand how any City fan cannot be concerned about how the club is being run. The clues have stacked up. Parky jumped, Stuart struggled throughout but hung in there, Grayson turned it down and then walked, 10 candidates were interviewed and were judged either to not be good enough, did n’t believe or like Hopkin ‘looking for a more traditional role’. Then a guy downstairs who did n’t apply and has almost no experience is given it. On the eve of that announcement, Mason a life long fan who loves his job and says one day he might come back, resigns.

I sincerely hope this works but as been said, players are more important than the coach. With a mid table budget and a policy of low wage with bonus incentives and an owner helping with recruitment, any coach would find success a little difficult, never mind a guy with 12 months experience with 17yr olds.

Our owner is playing with his train set.

Not to mention that Rahic will almost certainly be pulling Michael's strings

So if the U18s had won every game last season you wouldn’t use that to tell us what a great appointment this is?

Yes Park, playing in a team that gets beaten most weeks must be a great environment for developing young players.

He has had a part time job for a year or so and you think he may have a credible track record? You take optimism beyond the extreme

The owner is certainly playing with his train set. He has stated that Collins and Drury have been helping him with player recruitment since Grayson hopped the twig, and Greg was not around. What the actual ****. What footballing experience or qualifications do any of them have in player recruitment?. At the time the new players were signed, he was not considering Collins as HC. The only reason Collins has got the job is because he is willing to be controlled.
