I've never said that I don't think he'll join - I think he will and I CAN see why, because I think there's a reasonable case that we could be a better and bigger longer term option for him. Or maybe we're just offering him more money, who knows. My point was, you can also make a case for why he might decide to stay where he is and that for us to fulfill our 'big club' profile, we need to start actually acting big and not just talking big.

I think everyone will agree with the acting and not talking. We have had a lot of talk over the past 4 years, lets hope that the action will now happen. I'm sure that our offer will pay more than Morecambe can but I think the attraction will be our potential but if DA does come, like RS he will see us as another stepping stone. I have no problem with that as long as they get us back into progression.

99% of clubs in the game are a stepping stone. I have no issue with people coming here, doing well and then moving on.

When you compare us to Morecambe, in a nutshell - if both clubs are well run to something like the optimal limit of their capability and funding, we're clearly capable of reaching higher levels than them. But a well run Morecambe is demonstrably able to outperform a poorly run Bradford City. So in tempting Adams, the question is - what's the vision we've sold and how capable are we of executing it?

The 'vision' is having a very good Manager and Adams is definitely that. Even Plymouth fans hold him with affection - even though he started riling against them, towards the end of his tenure.

Morecambe isn't that well run. For seasons they've been struggling to stay in the league. It's the manager who's made the difference.

I'll remember well when Adams first came to VP with his Plymouth team who were bottom of the table and basically totally outsmarted McCall, who was too busy in pre-build making sly digs at Adam's character (I believe they locked horns in Scotland)

You may remember, they parked the bus and won. As the game went on we simply didn't have a clue and it was the first signs that our L1 promotion dream was not going to happen

We'd barely get as close (6 points) to the top 2 again. It was only their second win of the season. Remarkably it would be them who nearly got into the play-offs

So clearly Adams is a manager who like Parky can manage a team out of a bad run and turn it into some kind of consistent progression - something not a single manager has managed to do since `Parky left.

I do recall that game, now you mention it. At this level, you do need a degree of pragmatism. I'll take getting out of this league in whatever way is needed. I'd even take a couple of seasons of Steve Evans, because he'd get the job done.

Just imagine...we could have gone after Vardy, but as our scouting system was poor, we just played hoof to someone’s head , as opposed to ripping em apart with pace. Both completely opposite , lone man up front , tactics. One is affective , the other?

Its not our scouting system that let us down on Vardy (or Gregory). I had a long chat with ML about this when England played Sweden in the 2018 World Cup (he was preening in the peacock, drinking posh bottled lager) and he said they knew all about Vardy from as far back as Stockbridge Steels, but when we were interested Halifax wanted £30,000 for him and we didn't have a pot to piss in at the time. As he got better, the price sky rocketed. It was cashflow that stopped us making a killing on him.

Thanks UG, I was referring to the time he was at Stockbridge before he went to Halifax. Halifax spotted him, where were we, is my point?

ML said we knew about him there, but hadn't acted on it. Wasted opportunity but I guess whoever was manager at the time (Taylor ? Jackson? ) thought they knew best. Jamie Vardy or Ross Hannah ? No brainer really.

Though McCall did out smart him in the FA Cup a few weeks later....

That said, a well considered write up @banbrotam@banbrotam

Absolutly right. Such hidden gems are the lifeline to survival for lower league clubs. It shows what having “sell on “ clauses in sales can have, in terms of the huge financial implications for the” finding” club. It cant cost much to “employ” these type of players? It just needs one to pay off, or in our case, McBurnie, Wyke, etc etc etc.

If I remember we looked at Vardy at Halifax and were quoted £100K, we wouldn't have been able to hold on to him for 2 minutes but would made a profit..

I would imagine part of the draw (and the reason why we are thought of as a bigger club than Morecambe), is because we have fans that actually want some success. Their team played in their club's biggest game for decades last night, but you wouldn't think so looking at their forum where there are literally only 2 or 3 posts about the game. That kind of apathy probably makes Adams wonder why he is bothering, it would me.

You are one funny guy Ulysses. A friend of mine once called him "a little fat Scottish transvestite" to his face and the stewards did nothing!
Maybe they knew something we didn't.

I'd love a manager whose team could score quite so many flukey goals personally!
