Taking dividends that were, shall we say, dubiously obtained because you can’t take dividends from a loss making business. Didn’t they transfer income to another company to do it, creating a big loss for the football club and a big profit for the holding company ?

I loved the achievements on field but would I welcome him back ? No chance.

That is more or less how they did it once you add into the mix how the holding company (which was the company owned by the Rhodes' and the Richmonds) charged the loss making City a huge management fee making the club's losses even higher! Fortunately the loophole which enabled that to be done has since been closed and cannot be repeated these days.

So it’s fair to say, by current accounting standards, that would be fraud but hey, what’s a bit of financial mismanagement if the end result is premier league football followed by bankruptcy.

There’s a very good reason why the football league would only ratify our cva on the conditions that Richmond wasn’t involved and why 10 of the 12 companies Richmond held directorships at are now listed as “dissolved “

Like you, I enjoyed the PL days but we paid a massive price for our couple of years with the big boys.

Would I swap those times for not going into Admin on two separate occasions, almost losing our club and watching us fall down the leagues and almost go out of business again when in the khazi? Yes I definitely would! It was just too big a price to pay.

But judgement finally caught up with GR. He got his comeuppance though when he was convicted for tax fraud and described as 'most dishonest' by the judge who sentenced him. And then to add insult to injury for the man with the enormous ego, his wife ran off with his money after he transferred it to her to avoid the taxman getting his hands on it!

It includes his overall tenure so yes, even the negative stuff.

    But before the negativity swallows you up, jut imagine;

Imagine a chairman who provided Premier League football and participation in a European competition.
Imagine a chairman that raised the ambition of the whole club and refused to accept league one mediocrity.
Imagine a chairman with the heart and bravery to move us forward as a football club without constantly fearing the reprisals.
Imagine a chairman that led us to our first ever Wembley final, something we'd only ever dreamed of and the feeling of seeing 30,000 City Shirts, Scarves and flags turning Wembley way into a sea of claret and amber.
Imagine a few years later if the old girl had been pulled down without ever having seen the famous Claret and Amber adorning it's magnificent turf?
Imagine having not witnessed the Blackpool second leg? Arguably the greatest game for many fans. Imagine having not seen the arms and legs tumbling down the terraces after Mark Stallard swept in the 3rd and winning goal.
Imagine not signing Chris Waddle? I mean, Chris Waddle! In a Bradford City shirt? leading to THAT goal at Everton.
Imagine not seeing the return of Stuart McCall magnificently leading the team to a first ever PL promotion and some of the best football in living memory?
Imagine not living through THAT day at Wolves? A day that was packed so full of emotion that by the final whistle many were too drained to even celebrate.
Imagine no Robbie Blake, Lee Mills, Peter Beagrie or the countless others that we all remember so fondly, many of them still favorite players from our childhood.
Imagine no memories of PL wins over Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool to name drop a few of the clubs we not only rubbed shoulders with but outfought and actually beat.
Imagine not seeing the pitch invasion post Liverpool and the widespread feeling of pride reverberating around the whole City? We're Bradford City it said and we belong here now!

While you have a think about all that, nip down to VP and have a look at the current infrastructure that's in place. Maybe sit in one of the 25,000 seats and look around as you imagine whether you'd really have given all that up just for another 20 years of mediocrity and stability?

And all that out of the goodness of his heart, what a guy, arise, sir Geoff. And thanks for your legacy. I'd almost forgotten about getting dicked week in, week out in the mighty PL.

How is it irrelevant? It's all great memories we've built up over the years watching our football club.

If the memories become irrelevant we might as well just not bother!

Sounds like you'd be happier if we played in the northern counties premier league as long as we'd be winning a few. Each to their own.

    Yeah your right.

We'd be getting dicked in the Championship with this current crop.

When you think of some of the classy players we've had over the last 20 years and you look at what we've got now.

Loved our 2 year foray in the Prem, even with what happened since but I wouldn't want an owner to gamble with our existence like that again.

And imagine being an hour from not having a club at all, basically because your chairman took four million out

Absolutely spot on post. GR started the rollercoaster that all of us wanted to ride. And were we truly stable under Dave Simpson’s ownership, shopping in the bargain basement for the likes Darren Treacy, Darren Morgan, Steve Torpey, etc? Before big Geoff stepped in.

Some of them were great memories and made many people proud of our club. And many of those memories were less about the chairman and more about the players, the managers and the fans. And if you want to credit GR with all of these great memories, I could also post a list of all the other games where we were handed a lesson in football, not just in the PL but in what is now the Championship as we slipped down and down.

I also recall fundraising to keep this club in existence at Admin 1; a situation created by GR because he put us in hock to banks and leasing companies without any guarantees we'd ever be able to pay our way. He had gambled that the TV deal would happen and that would be our lifeline. As we know, it didn't happen (and GR as chairman of the group who were negotiating the TV deal has a responsibility for its failure) and we scraped through by the skin of our teeth and down the leagues we went. We lost our ground; we nearly went bankrupt for a second time because despite having millions written off by banks and leasing companies, we still couldn't pay our way. We were still living with that as we hit the bottom of the khazi division, talked about leaving VP to go to Odsal and were within touching distance of joining the conference. And all because GR had the ego of wanting to be the chairman of a Premier League club. Imo it was his ego that created all of this and we are still feeling the impact. And did GR stick around for all of this? No. Did he ever put any money into the club after he swapped us for Scarboro or when we were in a financial mess? No! He was brilliant at spending other people's money but never his own. And after he was booted out by the administrator, he finished up as a football consultant at his first love, Leeds.

Who knows what might have happened had we stayed in the Championship and become established there. We may not have been in the mess we were for the decade after we were relegated from the PL.

What spending feck all money on players and hoping youngsters are going to cut it.

You live in a dream world Park. We are a million miles away from even surviving a season in the Championship.

Have you seen the amount of money floating around in the Championship? Problem is it's from parachute payments not through revenue from cheap season tickets or getting your firms name on Poleons boots.
