The challenge is do we spend now or spend in the summer? If we push the boat now we need good quality because almost all those out of contact in the summer won't be fully charged under the salary cap, they'll be on the average wage, so good recruitment is critical. If we spend now, we'll have to stick with whoever for the duration of their contract.

Provided they get it right now would be a good time so that they are bedded in for next season

And there is no guarantees with T&S going forward they have done exceptionally well so far, but it was only quite recently Mark said they were happy with the situation and were not looking to put themselves forward for the job https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p091f4wb with the response they have got from the players they have obviously had a change of heart which is great.
I believe Trueman said that in a resent post match interview, so being offered the job on an interim basis works for both parties, they continue their good work and they keep working with the first team squad knowing if they cant have a bad run they can go back to the youth set up, win win.

Its a difficult one @Botswana Bantam@Botswana Bantam these lads are getting results has thrown a different light on the present situation as some have pointed out 8 points behind a play off place, still a big ask but not impossible so do we spend whats available on the best we can bring in, as I think not spending is leaving ourselves a little open with regards quality if we start with long term injuries.

It's a good point Bronco, but I'm not sure after having a taste of the 1st team going back to the kids is realistic. They are ambitious guys and will look to move on. They aren't gong to turn around and say "We are disappointed to only be offered the role on an interim basis"

Sparks is taking a lot of credit for this, but to me it was a no brainer. They made it easy for him to make the announcement by turning around the mess quite quickly.

The only reason they would return to the youth set up would be if they weren't successful in their present positions, I would hope they are ambitious and not playing the devils advocate, if they were to leave their previous jobs as youth coaches I doubt they would be putting themselves forward for a first team manager/coach.
Unless they are a success at Valley Parade IMO there would be little point in going for a first team appointment, they have the job now on an interim basis just carry on doing what their doing the players are responding and were climbing the table, long may it last.

Spend it all, even if that is by getting fewer players of better quality till the end of the season. The money can't be put into the pot for next year and we know the most we have available is 300kish so its not like we are gambling the future with it.
I know people are wanting as many as 5 new players but I would be happy with only 1 or 2 if they are of the real quality we need to get us through this season.

When we say we are gonna spend, its mostly gonna be on new loanees, right? Can’t see us paying notable fees for anyone. Maybe we might get someone who has been at a club but is paid up to get out - hopefully we can do the same with several of our lads.

I've come round to the idea of giving these young guys a shot, I know we had the Collins fiasco but Trueman just seems to have something about him, seems very mature head.Id just give them an 18month contract at it and see where it takes us.

Absolutely Dave. It's no coincidence our poor form, particularly scoring goals, was halted by the return of Novak and that the good form has continued with him in the team. Without a quality back up striker we'd be hugely exposed and likely drop down the table again and once again confidence would disappear. Its critical we spend the remaining budget on quality striker.

I think we need 4 in if possible.
    2 strikers,winger and a cover
    for mid field.

    Injuries and suspensions would
    disrupt our improvement.

Loanees could be a good way to go IF they are first team ready. Boost the first team and not necessarily here next season when they may not be needed.

That to me indicates we have certain players then who the club need to get shut of. It happened under Bowyer and if they are not giving their 100 percent for the city shirt every time they pull it on - they are not for us. Saying that however I think Stuart's style of play showed that a few of the individuals - were not good enough. This highlights - how poor previous transfer windows have been along with giving contracts that are over paying certain players have been.

Whilst no one can deny T&S have done well. I think the part the players have played in this mini revival is overlooked. Faced with the prospect of two youth team coaches directing things . Both I might add probably no older and maybe younger than themselves. The players start to take some resonsibility for their plight on the pitch !. To avoid the rank embarassment of being lambasted by their "two teachers" who have zero professional game experience to call on.

So its more about professional pride alongside a bit of simple organisation that most of us were calling for under Stuart.? But it has me questoning what the plan was when Stuart departed ? Because there certainly does appear to have been one ?

I get why Sparks would tend to stick rather than twist ? . But it manifestly plays into the January transfer window that is critical. We suddenly dont no longer need 4-5 proper players ? and rid of 3-4 useless lumps ! ?. On the 1st January we need our targets in or at least within the first two weeks !

T&S will not be the determining factor in a player deciding to move to the club. Usually the Manager plays a key role in that and T&S have little to put on the table in that regard ? Unless the pull of a crest fallen former Premier League club with 15000 ghost fans on the cusp of Non-League football cuts it ?.

So going with T&S might appear short term sense ? . But when the wheels come off ? and they surely will; thats when you need a Man with a Plan and experience comes into its own. What might be rather astute would be to leave Trueman & Sellars on the coaching side with an experienced "football director" to work with them ?. So that would allow one or both to maintain continuity with their successful roles with the academy side of the club.

So should we be adding the like of a Pulis to that list or someone of similar ilke ? Certainly if Trueman & Sellars is Sparks "plan" he stumbled on it...but ultimately the stability; continuity and wider "football scape" of the club isnt to be found in something Sparks tripped over on the way to the photo copier ?

    Interesting point.

If ever there was a perfect opportunity to bring a really great DoF into the club, it would be now, with interim managers with little experience.

    Come on Sparksy.

    Sort it.

Come to think of it ? Didnt Sir Geoffrey of Richmond do exactly this ? When he appointed Chris Kamara Manager with Lennie Lawrence Football Director. Sure that was how things rolled ?
