The lack of football knowledge in the Bradford City fan base is just shameful.

The top clubs have head coaches. Forget the website! Most are not involved in signing players. They have a team around them.

With Trueman we don't have that team. Even if we recruited a Head of Recruitment it's not enough.

We hired McCall and expected him to do everything like we are 1970! For it to work for McCall he needed to be a HEAD COACH with a DOF, a recruitment team.

Sparks might be setting this up we will see but he said he wanted a manager and if that's the case then we need a Hurst or someone not Trueman. If we want a Head Coach then we need to get a solid team around Trueman but for me Trueman needs to stay where he is!

Cowley Brothers were PE teachers weren’t they before they had a few minor non league roles before Lincoln, and they had no playing career of note either. I guess my point is this is a bad league and sometimes managers appear from nowhere and make a good go of it.

Obviously there needs to be justification for taking a risk - in this case it is the results they’ve managed. But as mentioned before, I don’t think Sparks will take a risk this time and will take a safer option. He worked under Rahic so knows what a hash it was under Collins and Drury.

Jose Mourinho is the obvious one and there are always exceptions, no matter how many good examples either side of the debate could give.

Your last comment though is exactly the point I'm trying to make. This feels like the completely wrong time to gamble and that's why I believe appointing a person with previous experience of football management would give us the best possible chance of salvaging the season whilst building for the future.

I know we need to build for the future and bringing Turnbill is a step in the right direction. I would give Trueman and Sellers a contract until the end of season and if all works put go from there. To me it’s a better option than bringing in another manager on a 2/3 year contract and finding out in 6 months he doesn’t fit.

 

If Turnbull is in place, I agree. Let Trueman and Sellars continue til the end of the season, and then review.

 

Apart from the fact if they apply now and we piss them off they won't be 'available' when we decide wd should have done it right in December.

I'm not knocking the caretakers but we need to appoint a permanent experienced manager who can recruit and knows how to deal with bad runs. Neither of the caretakers have that experience and lets be honest, both are areas where Stuart, with 400 games as a manager, failed

Big no from me. Weve done that recently and it didn't work. One swallow doesn't make a summer (or a wife).

We need to appoint properly and get these two tied down as the future of the club rather than the present.

Appoint them now and we lose them as great youth coaches when we have to sack them, as we will, within 18 months

I've just fast forwarded to page 87 of this thread, hoping there's an announcement. Nothing. Had a look at the T&A. Nothing.
Therefore, I can only presume that these two guys who've taken caretaker management of us, have really put the cat amongst the pigeons. As someone said (maybe @Fordy117 ), if Sparks has some balls, he has identified his manager before they took control, and will stick to it. This will show that he has self validation within himself, and he sticks to his guns. This is good! But...of course, these two have done well, and got a tune out of eleven players, who weren't playing for the previous manager with X amount of football experience.
Do you think Sparks knew this was going to happen, and what he was setting himself up for? I don't envy him.

To answer your question about if Sparks knew this was going to happen? I think so. Crawley, Cambridge and Grimsby. You would take them run of games.

Also we all knew on here that French wasn't good enough. We needed to play a back 4. Donaldson needed replacing. Samuel wasn't ready and Novak & Clarke coming back would make a difference.

When you really think about it what Trueman is doing isn't anything special. It's just that McCall was clueless. Sparks would of known all this.

Which 11 players were they? Evans, Novak Guthrie, Clarke and Sutton have not been available through injury or suspension for large parts of the season.
