    There will be a surplus of players, given that the league is reducing the number of players in each squad. The Championship has apparently capped the squad size at 25.
    Consequently players who would be in a squad of say 36/40 players, will not get a club. Quite a few will have to drop down the leagues and accept wages in line with the lower caps, if they want to play in England.
    So some of the names, who have played at a higher level, may well make themselves available, rather than face redundancy or leaving football altogether.
    Goldthorp, Sykes-Kenworthy, Anderson, Akpan, McCartan and Taylor are all still without a club. The same is happening throughout the EFL.

    As well T&A stated that Mcall didn't want him as he wasnt willing to relocate. Didn't want a Vaughan situation again.

    You're right, there will be a lot of surplus players but let's not kid ourselves that means there's going to suddenly be an abundance of talent available to us that wasn't there before. The vast majority of players that find themselves surplus to requirements will be surplus to requirements for a reason: they are squad fillers, players to call upon in an emergency, not first names on the team sheet. Yes, there might be a few gems from the higher leagues that could do a decent job in league 2, but the vast majority are going to be the equivalent of our Goldthorpe, Sykes-Kenworthy, Anderson, Akpan and Taylor, ie:not good enough.

    I don't think it was a case of not being able to attract him. McCall pulled out of the race when it was clear Maynard would not relocate. Presumably Mansfield are happy for him to continue to commute from Cheshire.

    We have had problems in the past with players commuting from afar although i'm not sure thats all the reasons behind Maynard not wanting to come here. Having just read Width of a post latest article, a lot of points in the article are what we've been banging on about for years, the fact we need a coherent long term plan. As i'v said before, covid 19 has temporarily put on hold the normalities in football but even before that this club has no long term structure in place as to what it wants to be in say 5/10/15 years time. And what better place to start with a long term transfer policy that doesn't see us having our pants pulled down time and again.

    In principle what Rahic was trying to achieve was laudable, i have it on good authority he actually talked a good game and a plan to go with. How he tried to execute this was his eventual downfall. A good plan needs an infrastructure in place that takes years to build and an owner willing to bankroll the plan.

    My partner knows his Partner, they dont live in Cheshire they live near Stoke, they bought two houses & turned into one & are hfway through having a full renovation & from the pics my partner showed me which was shared on Insta its a beautiful home, could be the reason he didnt want to move, on insta it says Cheshire but their home is near Stoke
