    Think you're missing my point.

Kids/adults who don't sit in the costly seats at the front come down from there cheaper up in the gods seats to sit in the lower kop.

As I said when we go to away games at the likes of Rochdale, Bury, Oldham, Crewe there are small fences at the front usually with advertisements on the pitch facing side, they are there to prevent fans encroaching the pitch I'm sure you've noticed on your travels at away games watching Bradford City.
Quoting Hillsborough is not what I was suggesting as I posted above, your reply is irreverent to my posts as you well know.

We don’t need a fence, big or small.

Tell the players to celebrate in the other corner, put a line of stewards there for 3 or 4 games, remind folk of the punishment for encroachment when entering the ground. It will soon get nipped in the bud. It’s really not that difficult.

Or start grabbing the fans doing it, chuck them out and ban them. It will soon stop.

If the fans did not encroach onto the pitch (even as I posted in celebration/relief of the killer 3rd goal) there would be no need to consider other means of a deterrent.
I'm not sure telling the players not to celebrate at the Kop end would work, it must be great taking the adoration of the home fans on scoring at the Kop end.
I think the announcer makes fans aware of what is unacceptable just before the kick off, I know I've hear the announcer say racist and homophobic language is not acceptable and I believe he also mentions entering the field of play, as I say I do believe it was as a celebration of our 3rd goal and also letting their frustration take over for an instant.

It wouldnt surprise me if half of them werent already banned anyway. For the last three home games my season ticket hasnt even been taken out of my hand or barely looked at let alone processed or scanned. They are so lax at the minute anyone could rock up with a child ticket and no one would be any the wiser

But in today's "namby pamby" world, are stewards allowed to grapple with fans? Could they themselves be warned/cautioned for man-handling what are in effect children.

The world has gone mad and maybe this is why there is little prevention in relation to fans getting onto the pitch

Good point - maybe this could be something the club really need to look at. 2 stewards are normal at the top of the stairs - there stood doing nothing, check the season ticker to see if the seat you're going to is in that block - not difficult is it.

Everything's getting taken out of context.

Back in the 80's if we invaded the pitch then we did properly, 100%

Anyone remember Doncaster away in the early 80's few 100 city in the home end, once the whistle went and off they went... straight into Doncastor...lol

Pathetic reminiscing for your lost youth. What japes!
That sort of behaviour is what made football fans social pariahs, herded around like cattle by police, and led to English football being banned from Europe.
It wasn't big and it wasn't clever then, and it isn't now.

Yes, they should. Concentrate on catching the first ones on (and any taunting opposing fans if so) and prosecuting them and everyone will stop doing it after that. It's a criminal offence because of all the battles between opposing fans on pitches in the 70s and 80s (and rare attacks on players). If they don't clamp down on increasing pitch invasions, the fighting will return and we'll go back to the dark ages of being treated like cattle.

So brick up the gaps, with no gates that would be manned and could be opened ? Yeah, stupid.
Hillsborough were high fences, not low hung gates. Even without opening, they would be no harder to scale than the walls.
As for learning, the ones encroaching the pitch appear to be those who have learnt nothing.

I've been attending live football matches since the 60s and on a regular basis since the 70s.
All that disruptive stuff you love to reminisce about was a pain in the arse to the vast majority of decent supporters back the. It caused reasonable fans to be herded around and treated as scum. I hated it then and I've no wish to see it return.
A grown man getting misty eyed about pitch invasions is, frankly, the height of pathetic.

I’m not getting into a debate over such a non-event.

All I will say is. There’s much cheaper, safer and simpler ways of dealing with this, rather than just slinging up a fence.
