Of course. It's well documented and beyond any doubt that people from 'higher' social classes have historically gone to university in much higher numbers, and still do, even though the total numbers going to university has expanded tenfold since the 90s. There is a great book from 1977 called 'Learning to Labour: How Working Class Kids Get Working Class Jobs' which details the way that social immobility works.

Most of my family were dockers, but my dad was bright and worked in the docks office. He and my mum were keen readers and instilled that in me. I passed the 11+ and went to a Technical High School - a second tier selective school that was full of bright working class kids, but only a small percentage went on to university, mostly due to low expectations. I left school at 18 and worked in an office in London for five years, which I mostly hated. So I applied to university as a mature student and got into Bradford Uni when I was 24. I was the first person on either side of my family to go to university.
So I accept that I was the exception rather than the rule. But I was surrounded by others who were from humble upbringings, many of whom were active football supporters who managed to enjoy their passion without getting into bother.

The problem with oh yeah high spirits lets not bother is the precedent it sets. Later when a more sinister invasion takes place and action taken those affected can start saying well you did nothing when Bradford fans came on versus Carlisle. Zero tolerance is the only way forward on this.

Andy Holt (Accrington Stanley owner) has, yesterday, indicated that they will be introducing charging a premium for matches against problem teams, in the first instance Blackpool (after their fans set off smoke bombs at the last match). This is because the Police have informed him that they will have to pay £5.50 per spectator next time, plus increased numbers of stewards, plus a reduction in capacity.

Blackburn Rovers have already introduced category A+ for problem teams this season, with a premium of £12 being added to ticket prices for such visiting teams.

If City suddenly fans suddenly found themselves having to pay an extra £276 to attend away league matches each season, would they really treat such incidents as smoke bombs and running onto the pitch perimeter as trivial events?

So decent fans get tagged in with the idiots, sounds about right.
I thought clubs could not charge away fans more than what home fans pay, it will hit clubs like Accrington who get a very good pay day out of Bradford City's visiting fans.

The way Blackburn work it, and the way Accrington are proposing, is that prices are reduced for other category matches to compensate for the increased prices for problem teams, so that home and away fans are charged equivalent prices. Season ticket holders are unaffected.

But yes, for away matches, decent fans of the problem teams, get penalised.

Its not just 'kids' that sit in the lower kop - they come from all over the kop.

And it's just not kids, it's 'adults' too.

And older fans know this. Too often in life, the majority get punished for the infringements of the minority. Young fans think we're being boring by criticising them but we're just thinking ahead. We know from experience that a few will push boundaries and the rest of us will get punished for it. That's why there's speed bumps and speed cameras everywhere these days, and you have to go through tedious health and safety inductions for everything. It's because a stupid or reckless minority spoiled it for the rest of us.

You know what when the January transfer window opens and we have little or no money to spend on decent recruits remember to cast your mind back to the impending needless fines money taken by the EFL due to the measures and implementations imposed.Any such restraints will surely have an impact on the club's coffers due to recent behaviour of a very small number of spectators home and away.
Can not see the club getting out of this latest craze without some form of monetary punishment.
Another big away following on Saturday, what's going to happen there?
I think many already know the answer.
    Cue smoke.

They should dig a 2' trench around the pitch and fill it with bab, that'll stop em.

I have a confession. I`m 56. In that famous game when Collymore scored that amazing goal against Leeds. We all jumped up didn`t we........... we all went mental? We really did, my mates behind me knowing of the then recent encroachment laws pushed me onto the pitch. I was instantly ejected from the ground I had attended a million times since 1967. Marched out to howls of laughter from mates. Spent the rest of the match watching it in "The Bolton" pub. I was early 30s at the time. I am of the generation who remembers Pete Newby diving head first having ran across the pitch into the Millwall supporters at the home game around 1987, then being thrown back onto the pitch by them. I know rules are rules but sometimes we forget ourselves in times of euphoria don`t we, or is it just we ain`t had much "euphoria" these past 5 years. !! They are childish but that`s because they are children just like us in 1978 us as kids would have done exactly the same and no problem. Just ushered back into the stand no problem. Trouble is nowadays passion is not allowed its frowned upon.

Ok, you know when you go to the theatre(yes, don't laugh I go to the threate at time( Pull up in the Merc wearing my birthday suit) you've to pay more for front row seats.

@wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler is a man of class and will know what I am talking about.

In other words charge them all more on the bottom row.

The only theatre you attend is an operating one to get your rose tinted spectacles removed.

The game and grounds have come on a long way since those days @Bantam67@Bantam67 (thank goodness) and during the Newby days it was taken for granted any fan who got onto the pitch was there to cause trouble, where as Saturdays encroachment was more out of frustration us putting the game to bed at 3 - 1.
Why don't the club put a 3 foot metal fence up at the Kop end with gates that can be opened if required manned by stewards as it is at the moment with the gaps at the bottom of every isle fans run straight onto the perimeter and possibly encroach onto the pitch.

Dave, a horrific idea to put fences back up at the front of the Kop.

I understand your reasons why, when we go to the likes of Rochdale, Bury, Oldham, Crewe we are behind a small wall, if fans can't restrain their emotions and run onto the pitch something has to give, let's hope the incident is not in the referees game report.

Bollocks to fences. Have we learnt nothing from Hillsborough?

    Stupid suggestion.
