Yes, I know there are rules, its a good job they didn't run on the pitch then, otherwise they could fetch hanging back to set an example of these criminals.

the mn has a point - what is the 'pitch area'? (absolutely not seeking to condone the idiots, one of whom seemed to have done some damage to James Vaughan in the Northampton game!)

    Going onto the playing area.

It is an offence for a person at a designated football match to go onto the playing area, or any area adjacent to the playing area to which spectators are not generally admitted, without lawful authority or lawful excuse (which shall be for him to prove).

So you shouldn't punish rule breaking unless you're going to hang people?

I'm sure there's a point to what you're saying, I'm just not seeing it.

Everyone in that stadium knows not to encroach onto the pitch area, except anyone under 2 years old maybe, and no, being overjoyed at opening up a two-goal cushion with seconds to go does not excuse it. It's not a rush of adrenaline any more than any other game, it was just a nothing goal in an otherwise unimportant fixture (three points notwithstanding), so seeing as there aren't any valid excuses for encroaching onto the playing area, what's wrong with enforcing the rule with the relevant consequences?

It's hardly martyrdom, they're hardly going to get persecuted, if they get banned, well, they knew that was a possibility and that's how society works.

No idea why you're overreacting, to be honest. Break rule, receive slap on the wrist, back to normal.

How about Pete being an umpire at Wimbledon @Futchers tache@Futchers tache , and John McEnroe saying to him "you can not be serious", just give me a minute to get out of this f*****g chair, climb down and we can discuss who's right and who's wrong .
Certainly a character was our Pete.

I'd think all these guys are encroaching the playing area, just high spirits without doubt because of the late goal but eventually the FL will take action. Fans.jpg

I've no idea who Pete Newby is, so that comment is lost on me.
But I grew up in a working class family in Essex before coming to Bradford to university in 1980. My mates were all working class and most were football fans. None of us got our kicks by causing trouble at games, so I just don't get this idea that being a troublemaking scrote is somehow a normal part of being teenage and working class.
We all suffered being treated like scum and herded like cattle by often over-zealous policing. I was baton-charged at a European West Ham game in The Hague by Dutch police who decided to get their retaliation in first against the notorious English hooligans, even though we were not causing trouble.
Football was a social pariah in the 70s and early 80s, with those of us who loved football all tarred with the same brush as 'hooligan scum'. This culminated in the tragedy of Heysal, leaving people dead and English football banned from European competition for several years.
So, sorry, I don't buy this bollocks that running on pitches, letting off pyrotechnics etc etc are just harmless fun, nor the idea that being working class gives anyone the right to 'let off steam' in an anti-social manner. That's the thin end of a dangerous wedge and needs stamping out before it deteriorates further. It's perfectly possible to have a few drinks and a good day out following your team, as the vast majority of working class fans do, without causing trouble.

That is rather a trite remark. Look if you enter someone else’s property and do not respect the rules, then they are not going to readily invite you back.

To give you an analogy, if someone went into your house and jumped up and down on your sofa, would you be willing to invite them round on a regular basis.

Face ‘facts’, pitch incursion is against the rules. Simple really.

Maybe there are different classes of working class then, cause the ones I grew up amongst didn't even get a chance of university.

On tv it looks a bit embarrassing tbh. And as tarty says, totally premeditated. It wasn’t like it was a proper 90th minute winner, it’s all done for show, not spontaneous. They just want on tv and the players running that way gives them
a bit of a window of opportunity.

However, I do agree that the day there is no way fans could possibly ever celebrate with players, on the odd, rare occasion of a really thrilling late goal would be a shame. Now i’m not saying fans going on the pitch, but if a player goes in to celebrate with supporters then I don’t really see the problem with that. But what we are seeing at VP isn’t this and if identified they have to accept the punishment. Whatever that may be.

Having said that, i wonder how many posters have ever been on the pitch? I realise maybe not in the same context as what we are discussing above, but i bet there are a few. Myself included. I’ve gone and done it now....

    Really? Tennis?

Football is popular because of the 'edge' at games. If you're solely looking for people ti clap either side with mutual appreciation arty every match then can I politely suggest, you stick to the toff nosed nonsense once a year!

Yep. Let's just calmly shake hands and retreat behind the half way line to anticipate the forthcoming kick off.

Dear God. One of Fagley's offerings to society, working class. Product of St. Clare's, George's and Bede's. Had exactly the same chance as any other working class kid. Did I choose to take it though?
Got to say though tache, you got me to bite but that is some dog shit you just posted. :)

Of course the odd one went to university, but I bet there is a higher percentage of mummies boys go to University than working class..
