Why do you deem it to be " Pathetic ", it happened and a lot of us were there.
We are not glamourising it just comparing it to todays yoof, the only flares we had were our jeans.

In no post do any of us condone or say we enjoyed any of what we saw.
These things happened and we got caught up in them.

I'm not 'offended'. I'm just expressing my opinion that reminiscing about old football 'bovver' is irritating to me and a bit pathetic. You may not be glamourising those days but there are several on here who do.

I was going to football matches in the 70s and 80s too, albeit not in Bradford. I experienced the effects of hooliganism - being baton charged by police, herded around like cattle, jumped on by a bunch of Forest fans when I arrived late at Upton Park, etc etc. I hated all that shit then and have no desire to see it creep back in.

Why would I not read this thread? It's about young dickheads behaving in unacceptable ways that, if not nipped in the bud, have the potential to take us back to the bad old days. I've a strong opinion about this and I have no compunction about expressing it.

BTW, why would Forest fans set upon you at West Ham’s ground? Are you another ‘Hammer’ / ‘Iron’ that has joined the Bantams Progressivism?

I thought this forum was about exchanging opinions. My opinion is my opinion. Of course I think it's correct or I wouldn't hold it. Yours may differ.
You may think that the hooliganism of the 70s and 80s is something to fondly reminisce about. I don't. It was pathetic, unnecessary and damaging to football back then and it's reappearance would be wholly unwelcome. Of course it's no big deal to you since you're on the other side of the world and wouldn't have to suffer the consequences of a hooligan revival.

 

Because, as I explained earlier in the thread, I was born and grew up in Essex and watched West Ham until I moved to Bradford in 1980 to go to university. Hence my username, which is Yorkshire dialect for someone who comes from elsewhere.

 

Sorry mate, I missed that. Irrespective of how you arrived, the more Bantams the better.

 

Appreciate all these views about hooligans of the current and of the past. I was never a hooligan, never affiliated with them, knew some of them through playing football, but like a team they had loyalty to people. If they saw other BCFC fans in trouble they would dive in and support them. Remember Millwall at Wembley when they started to charge our Car Park and some scarfers started to return it from the Car Park so Millwall didn't get into it? I was there so they were nowhere my kids. Does that make me a bad dad or a protecting one? Divides opinion...Police nowhere to be seen at the time.
I do not advocate football violence at all.

 

1, it’s the most exercise most of them have had in ages.
2 I’m all in favour of the the fact, that unlike last season we actually have a Goals to celebrate
