To put it in terms you will understand, the technicality is the number of goals scored from open play vs penalties. no matter which proportion it was, his return was still crap and he's still crap at everything else you have to do on a football pitch as well. I'm done trying to discuss things with you now as you just seem to alternate between patronising and pedantic, any semblance of quality in your posts has long since gone.

Because you don't stick to the facts. Facts are easy because they are factual and are there in black and white for all to see.

Yet in your arguments, "dogshit Doyle" has scored anything from 8 down to 4 depending on what day it is for you when in the real world, he got 11.

That's your starting point, debate with facts and honest opinion on those facts I'll discuss all day. Make things up to try and skew things and I'll also call you out on it all day.

You either can't or won't read what I've written, I've never questioned that he scored 11 goals (still a dogshit return and my point all along), just how many were scored from penalties vs open play. You won't comprehend that though because it doesn't fit your argument. It's as daft as me calling you out for not being a real monkey. Now you're giving it big licks saying debate with an honest opinion, why would I have a dishonest opinion?

It seems a fact to me that you're losing it pal!

I think that the two sides of the debate as to the merits of Doyle, the number of goals that he scored, from ‘Open Play/Penalties’ and whether there were enough, has been systematically and thoroughly worked through, ‘done to death’, if you will.

Perhaps just accept that there are many different views and from each posters view, they are correct.

Both have had an opportunity to consider the others position but despite that they are convinced their position is correct.

Seems like the matter has been fully explored. Perhaps just perhaps leave it at that?

Ah yes, penalties don't count. Just like those who bashed Harry Kane at the World Cup and said he didn't deserve the Golden Boot.

You might have had some sort of a point originally but you are going over the top with your criticism here and undermining yourself.

Doyle is a very good strike for League 2. If you ignore finances. ANY manager in League 2 would want him in their squad if they could easily afford his wages. He might have underperformed in a dreadful City side last year but who didn't. Very few emerged with credit.

I don't think I am, I would argue a lot of people are going over the top defending him because of how he performed everywhere except at city.Which in my view after a full season of watching him crap team or not, is still not enough to build the team around him to the extent he can score. Onside hit the nail on the head in saying he needs all the ducks lined up perfectly to perform and frankly thats a luxury we can ill afford at any level let alone L2.

show me at any point in the season where he demonstrated any of those attributes. He's 31, on most likely silly money for a back up striker and hasn';t shown anything different so far this season when plenty around him have.

As has been said above though, its been well and truly done to death now. I think he's a load of pap and others evidently don't, which is fair enough and we'll see whats what in the coming season. Which I for one am very positive about having seen the new signing sand having watched us play a couple of times so far. Like night and day compared to last year and long may that continue.

I posted earlier but I think your right, after a season and seeing glimpses in pre season I still don't know what he offers.

Only seen the second half against Liverpool when Hornby took over but he certainly didn't do his cause any harm with that second half performance, hopefully Hornby will be pushing for the keepers shirt against Cambridge, not just making the numbers up like Wilson.

Doyle is not a target man but was often asked to lead the line for us last season in a team which lacked a target man and any quality from out wide. He is best playing off another striker.

I was watching the Play off final on Sky the other day and you forget what a joy it is to watch a winger like Kyel Reid flying down the wing and whipping in crosses. Doyle didn't get good service at all in a poor City side last season.

If you asked me to rate Doyle's performance in 2018/19 I would have given him a 5/10. but I wouldn't have given higher than than for many others either. Caddis or O'Brien being the exceptions. He has scored goals regularly at Chesterfield, Cardiff and, more recently Oldham (14 in 30 for them). He has proven his quality at a higher level than League 1 and players do not become bad overnight.

We will see the best of him when he played upfront with Donaldson or Vaughan this year - clever players who are streetwise, will draw fouls and create openings for him. If we start to play with some width that will also help him. I don't think he will start initially but Donaldson and Vaughan are physical players who will take knocks. Having Doyle here to deputise will ensure we have two quality players lining up and not filling a spot for the sake of it with a Bruenker or Patrick.

Think I said similar to @JonButterfield@JonButterfield but I didn't think he did a great deal other than have a heavy touch and get out muscled. I do agree with Hornby though, thought he looked quite assured.

Not sure what you mean with regards a keeper having a heavy touch and being out muscled mate.

Interesting that you think that people can't decide for themselves when a discussion is done?

Join the mass debate. Problem is people getting more entrenched in their initial views.

Doyle has a decent record at most clubs bar us, on the flip side he was asked to play a role that didn't suit him in a team/system that was poor last season.

I wonder if he even wants to be here? maybe that's a more important question. He's not gonna be first choice.
