New Signing: James Vaughan

If I were a footballer I'd go with loyalty and a personal connection with the buying club. And I'd be happy to go wherever they pay the most for loyalty and a personal connection.

 

Whilst he hasn’t got the technique of Vaughan I think Doyle would score more goals over the season that’s why he seems to be in demand. So it wouldn’t be a disaster if we miss out on Vaughan and hestays

 

I am easy either way tbh. Doyle for me was massively disappointing last season; I know we were asking him to do things he wasn’t used to, but he showed a distinct lack of brain cell activity. It is what defines the good strikers from the ordinary. You just never got the impression he was prepared to step out of his comfort zone and try something different, and he allowed the CB’s to bully him off the ball. If GB can coach some alternatives for him, fine.

Vaughan might have done well at this level, but he is Tranmere bound.

Not worried at all tbh, we will go get ourselves another striker.

Blackpool and Swindon both after Doyle so he wont be here next season.

 

He is our player and under contract we would be stupid to let him go until we have a replacement. If we don’t sign one he stays

 

Wages will be the big thing. If hes on anything like the 5 grand a week that's rumoured, I think we'd sell and back ourselves to strengthen. Especially with so long left before the window shuts

 

How much do you think Vaughan would want

 

I don't care if its Vaughan or Doyle, but I think we will struggle to bring in equal quality if we didn't have either.

 

2-3 grand a week is what I reckon we'd have been offering. Tranmere have offered a 'lot more' so hes probably on something like 5 grand a week if he goes there.

 

In which case, fair enough ...... We don't need mercenaries at VP - Only those who can do a job, and want to wear the shirt.

 

Anyway ..... Trying to look on the bright side - Although trialists may be few in number, let's hope there's a decent striker or two amongst them

 

Let's hope we can unearth a Nahki Wells type forward - somebody wanting to impress and to pull on a City shirt and of course less wages. It was a nice try but it would always be an uphill battle to bring in Vaughan - but it is always a gamble using a lot of the budget - relying on him finding his goal scoring touch and staying injury free for the majority of the season.

 

Dont think its mercenary as such. More money and a higher league? Fair play to him. At least its early. There'll be plenty more options out there if its fallen through

 

At his age it’s about playing as high up as possible with as much money he can get. Nobody can blame a player for taking the money

 

Of course they will, but I'd hate City to get into a 'wage bidding war', when the likes of Paudie joined us for what I consider the right reasons.

If Vaughan has been pissing us about isn't it time to tell him to get stuffed. For the amount Vaughan will cost, I bet we could get Danny Rowe for much less with enough left to take a chance on Oxford City's out of contract striker Kabongo Tshimanga. Scored 24 for them, a few league teams have been looking at him.

 

Honestly I dont see Vaughan as being our saviour. If he signs, meh ok, good luck to him hope he does well. If not there are better players out there I think Bowyer could get hold of.

If its between us and Tranmere, and he goes there, it's not for the crowd, it's not for the prospect of promotion, it's for a relegation battle and the dollars clearly. Mercenaries are not wanted here anymore. If he chooses Tranmere I for one will not lose sleep. I reckon there are players around better than him who would come and join us for the right reasons.
