looks just like our pitch in the early 80's and we still managed to play decent football on it.

 

I think I may have mentioned in the Barrow thread. I had a talk with Pete Wild at Barrow last week, he had been to watch us against Wycombe and said although our pitch didn't look great he was impressed by how it played. "Good bounce and running true across the surface", was how he described it. "The proof was in the way Bradford played some great stuff". Conclusion of that is looks don't always matter as a few other pitches I've seen in the last few weeks attest. Wild said Salford was by far the worst he's seen this season.
I'm hearing VP has improved since Wycombe so we will see. We need to put this lot away and repeat on Tuesday.

 

I'm not sure why our pitch was being used as a gauge for last weekend's postponement. Unless the ball doesn't bounce when it hits the turf and as long as it doesn't stop dead mid momentum then the pitch is playable. The pitch at Barrow last week didn't bounce in areas. Forgive me but I'm struggling to remember watching a game in recent years where the ball didn't bounce. Imagine a high ball landing dead in the pitch. It just doesn't happen. The fuss over the postponement last week was baffling.

 

The thing that annoyed people was the fact they postponed it at 2.00pm when 1000 fans had travelled 2-3 hours to get there, wasting time and money. Not baffling when there’s a cost of living issue in society.

 

Maybe the amateur groundkeeping experts will get back in their boxes now lol

 

Aye without bringing this up again it’s always the fans that suffer, Barrow, the ref and EFL certainly won’t be out of pocket and they should all take some of the blame for how the situation was handled. Crawley called off yesterday for instance, that would have been far more useful last week.

The pitch is arguably an advantage at the moment. It felt like Wycombe didn't know how to play on it. We've played several times on it now. We want to play as many games as we can while we have something of an advantage and get winning them all.

 

Following conversations with the match referee........that doesn't mean he has actually seen it yet. Anything could happen when he turns up.

The forecast isn't looking too promising for the next few hours, hopefully the pitch is fine rather than 'fine as long as we have no more rain' or this could be another late postponement.

 

Sometimes people will look to find any reason to point the finger at others. Our pitch is not brilliant, but as i said it was far worse in the past and did not stop us playing well against Wycombe.

 

That’s not the reason why travelling fans were razzed off and therefore not baffling.

 

It saves em griping about the owner, the CeO, the drink, the catering, the groundsman , the stewards, the price of fish etc etc etc . Explains why the forum has been reasonably quiet this week?

 

Yes a few wins soon shuts them up, lose today and they will all pipe up again. All hot air and more than willing to pay the least possible for their Saturday afternoon out.
