When is a donation not a donation? If you donate money to a cause, charity, or business you can’t go back and ask for it back? @Dennis@Dennis

Will say most of that debt is from the prem years trying to be competitive. And the clustercluck that was Phil Hs premiership of the club. His other business went into admin so he couldn’t run the club

If they don't go down wouldn’t surprise me if they do next season via admin. They have a new buyer but heard nothing on that front.

I struggle to think of a good reason why an owner would simply 'donate' money to their club. It doesn't make sense to me. I can't think of an example when this has been done post FFP. As you say, a donation is a donation is a donation.

The two accepted and commonly used routes of injecting extra money are either as a loan or the issue of equity. The important difference is that a loan will at least in theory be repaid at some point whilst equity cannot be repaid. That difference is critical in the FFP regime at our level. Loans are not part of what is called 'fortune income' for the calculation of the wage cap whereas additional equity is. In simple terms, putting £1m into a club via a loan, has no bearing on the playing budget. However injecting £1m as equity enables all of that to be used to increase the playing budget.

For the benefits of overseas fans, dies anyone know if the playoff semi final games be on iFollow? Or even Sky?

The final I think is on Sky? Hoping to be there of course if we make it.

Thank you for your very good explanation. Somebody on here said that owners of clubs can just donate money, I presume this is classed as “fortune income”?
What concerns me is that once we are promoted how do we reach the next level without our very own “Sugar Daddy/Mummy”?

It will be incredibly difficult for us to become an established Championship club in the current regime without finding another £15m or so extra revenues to keep us in line with other clubs. Around half of that would come courtesy of Sky, BT and additional TV rights but the rest would be down to fans, sponsors etc and sugar daddy/mummy owners who are willing to dig deep!

If you recall, it was that view of the future which convinced ML to sell the club to new owners who had the money to take us forward into a brave new world.

Unless the owner is a rich long-standing fan of the club in question. Jack Walker being a case in point. Sullivan (and until his death, Gold) at West Ham are another.

Considering how poor we are at home. I would rather us be away for the second leg,

I do remember now you mention it. Hasn’t Rupp said he knows he has to dig deep if we wish to be promoted to the Championship?

However, as you say we need another £7/8 million to maintain ourselves in the Championship, with that sum probably increasing.

The Lawn quotes at the time came from a chat he had with the Millwall chairman, after Millwall were relegated from the championship in 2015. Their budget at the time was one of the lowest in the championship at around £7M for the season and still struggled to keep pace. In the 8 year since, not only has the money drastically increased but the gap between the top end and bottom end of the Championship has become ridiculous.

For what it's worth, Rotherham have been a yo-yo club for some time now between the champ and L1 whilst being one of the smaller sized clubs when in the champ, their books for this season don't look to have been made public but their last time in the champ and went down they had a budget of £5M, with relatively similar squads in either division. If you have a very good recruiter you can survive on a £5/6M budget at that level but it's a huge task.

Last time we were in the play off’s all legs of all playoffs were on Sky from memory. I’m sure they were last season?

Half of me thinks he did know he would have to dig deep hence why he didn’t back McCall after we lost to Millwall in the play off final because he knows it would have been hands in the pocket time.

If we're in with a shout next Monday, I'm not into this resting players plan - because we've given up on the auto's. Not least, because it clearly breaks the momentum.

But let's remember us winning, Northampton and Stockport not winning isn't a fantasy. Very unlikely - but we need to be on it and exploit the situation if they foul up.

Stockport's match, looks an easy three points. However, the way Challinor left Hartlepool, that match with Stockport is particularly intriguing. We saw that attacking wise Hartlepool are not bad - just terrible in defence.

But let's be honest it would be a fricking miracle, however we shouldn't roll over.

Yes. I'd forgotten about that disastrous spell under Hodgkinson (??).

There's a link to the new owner. Things can change, but it appears nailed on unless the EFL object.

The first priority is getting the point needed to qualify for the play offs we are not there yet

As has been said a 'donation' will not be able to be claimed back, i.e. that's how Salford survive (I mean they can't be sustainable and be the highest L2 players based on their average 2500 crowds!!)

Loans are what comes back to bite. Raj Singh at Hartlepool wants to sell and has ploughed £1m in, but reportedly as loans, and so wants that back. He's already threatening a fire sale - if the supporters don't get off his back.
