The Shibden Mill Inn has been voted Yorkshire's favourite pub, according to Welcome To Yorkshire.

I'm there this weekend as it happens...

Went to The Royalty at Otley Chevin on sunday - very good food. Decent range of beers too. Sat in the conservatory which was warm but not ridiculous, service was great and length of time waiting for food was good. Sunday roasts looked amazing, loads of decent cuts meat and huge Yorkies, I had lamb pie which was like a shepherds/cottage pie (crustless) with big chunks of lamb, carrots, parsnips and mash on top - very very nice. Decent prices - sunday roasts under a tenner, kids meals around £6/7 and they were proper cooked food. Great views outside too. Really impressed (again).

We decided to eat only once at the Shaven Crown as we wanted to find a pub with a big screen on Tuesday and Wednesday..

    So..#

The Shaven Crown is a 700 year old building in the heart of the Cotswold village of Shipton Under Wychwood.

    upload_2018-7-12_16-4-22.png

    upload_2018-7-12_16-6-17.png

It was red hot on Monday evening so we dined Alfresco..

    The wife's starter..

Feta, Watermelon & Basil Salad £6.50

    upload_2018-7-12_16-8-9.png

Light and refreshing she said.. not my preference but she enjoyed it.

    My starter..

Crispy Cod Cheeks, Confit Chorizo, Cauliflower & Fennel £7.50

    upload_2018-7-12_16-11-58.png

    Delish!!.. the sauce was incredible.

    Wife's main..

Crispy Buttermilk Chicken, Skinny Fries, Chipotle Mayo & Heritage Tomato Salad £15

    upload_2018-7-12_16-15-30.png

Layers of white and dark meat which is tasty to me but the missus likes her white meat so was less than impressed. But a reet plateful for the money.

    My main..

Rosemary-skewered Lamb, Crispy Shoulder, Cannellini Beans, Artichoke & Salsa Verde £21.50

    upload_2018-7-12_16-21-36.png

This was great.. the rosemary skewerd lamb was slightly tough but full of flavour. The breaded, crispy shoulder melted in the mouth and there was a mix of great flavours from the accompaniments.

We were both full and slightly intoxicated so passed on pudding.

I was drinking pints of Hooky Ale and the missus was downing San Miguel.

Total bill for food and drink £78.50.

Looks like good gear, that. Especially the cod cheeks. Place looks tidy as well.

Went to Amici’s Italian restaurant in Keighley for a birthday meal on Tuesday. On Tuesdays, they run the early bird deal all night.

I had deep fried bread crumbed mozzarella for a starter and then for my main, I had a pizza with pepperoni and jalapeños on. I can generally eat a lot, but struggled to eat all of my pizza. The pizza was fantastic though and the best I have had in a very long time.

Girlfriend had the mozzarella starter followed by a pizza with tuna and sweetcorn.

We both had an alcoholic drink with our meals. I tried to be authentic and picked an Italian craft ale called Moretti alla Toscana.

All in, the bill came to just over £30. I was happy enough to give a generous tip because we both enjoyed the food so much though.

If I go back there any time soon, as much as I do like the mozzarella starter, I think the pizza itself will be sufficient enough without any starter. They do give bread and butter before meals anyway.

There was a fairly drunk bloke on a table behind me who complained to a waiter by saying his steak was “the worst he’d ever had”. I don’t know whether he was just being awkward and trying to get some money back or whether it really was as bad as he said. I’m pretty sure he was exaggerating and could have said something earlier than when collecting the bill if there genuinely was an issue with the steak though.

Folk who complain at the end of a meal are generally after one thing.

We were contemplating going here the same night we ended up at The Hawthorn in Haworth, but wanted to eat near the b&b (and v glad we did). Sometimes - as you say - a good pizza just does the job.

Sorry if I appear to be lowering the tone, somewhat ............

I shop early - to avoid the gimmers and scroats etc.
Only began early this year, but I now 'treat' myself to a large breakfast at Morrisons - eating about 08.30, here in South Yorks. A couple of months ago, I tried Five Lane ends branch, whilst up in Shipley - 09.00, Saturday.
Cheap and cheerful - nothing truly great, but fantastic not to have to prepare or clean up after. The point being - That having sampled Five Lane ends on 3 occasions, this was the best by far, from five different Morrisons outlets tried.
Great customer service, and very clean. Well done to them.

Breakfast chat isn't lowering the tone! I know someone who also frequents Morrisons for brekkie.

Are you pro-hash brown? It's a divisive topic.

That depends @millario@millario - They can be very anaemic looking here in Bramley. Much more appealing and tasty when correctly cooked. ;)
