Shocking beer really, but like all these continental lagers, they all come alive drunk on their home turf when it’s 30c!

Spinalonga, yes been there a couple of times. Chania is fantastic. Usually stay in Koutouloufari in the hills behind Hersonissos. Love Crete.

@TallinnBantam@TallinnBantam will be appalled but when I am in Corinth, I tend to drink Fix on the beach and the tavernas. Mythos is not too good.
As for today’s game, nothing, not even my morning coffee (can’t remember the last time I didn’t have coffee on a morning). Actually had to leave at 6 to take the high school cross country team to an early morning 5k run so I missed the whole game. Well chuffed when I saw the score. Oh, and a couple of very good times from my runners.

Lol it does that job exactly. There are now loads of local brews available in tbe restaurants but none in the tiny mini market here. They even brew local IPAs now which I'm sure they didn’t pre-covid. Only Fix, Mythos or Alpha in the shop here, but should be able to stock on some more intetesting stuff when we're in Chania.

Staying in Varipetro next week, just outside Chania. Won't have that view though ☹

Ta! Made a weekend of the celebrations: roast pork for dinner yesterday, with an Inniskillin Pinot Grigio, and anchovy sandwiches for supper, with Finlandia and Ottakringer Helles. Hic!

The Westmalle was a touch disappointing, but then again only the "Extra" was available here, not the Tripel you had.

Back to local craft beers for the Blackburn match.

As I'll be driving up to tomorrow's match and won't get back home until around midnight, it will be just a single pint waiting for me when I do eventually get back home.

Mind you, it will be Alter Ego (Heanor, Derbyshire) Brewery's 'Robots In Your Brain' Double IPA 8%.

Certainly a unique place. I bet the prisoners who dug out the lake, would never had believed that twenty years later, there’d be throngs of thongs and sunbathers admiring their hard labour. I was with the family, so I kept my mirror sunglasses on for the duration, and sadly can’t back up with photographic evidence. But here’s a nice scenic shot :)

Have 4 bottles of Timothy Taylors Landlord in the fridge for this afternoon. Can only drink it cold.

Four? FOUR? And I have none. (sounds of weeping and wailing and lamentations about the unfairness of life...)

But I do have some bottled Guinness "draught" -- needed a bottle for some Dublin coddle, but had to buy 6 -- that is rather pleasant, and some Wellington Helles, which is very nice indeed.

Tried out another local craft brew, Newark's Helles, and so far have found it very disappointing. I don't know if they meant to brew a cloudy Helles, with definite yeasty/bready aroma and taste, but that is what is in the first two tins of the 12-pack I bought. Never had a Helles like that before, and even their promotional photos show a clear beer. I suppose I should e-mail them and ask.

Nice to be the robber instead of the robbee for a change! Worth a Guinness or Wellington (or both) later in the day.

The only legal way to import, apart from bringing it in yourself as duty-free when travelling, is to put a special order in through the commission, but by the time you add in the taxes, brokerage fees, duties, and so on it just isn't worth it. One just has to wait until it comes in again, and then run round the shops buying as much as possible!
