The stumbling block is probably the compensation. Does a club want to effectively pay a transfer fee for a player who probably has similar attributes to others at league one when they're unlikely to get money back for him. For example, as solid a performer as he is, he isn't going to do a Lewis O'Brien and become a solid championship player after a year and therefore be sold for a fee, is he?

 

Reads like a joke that, but the punchline needs a bit of work.

 

I don’t think our full backs are anywhere good enough .

CB are needs improvement

DM need quality

and we need another decent Midfielder or attacker.

We still have plenty of work to be done to be considered a serious team in this division.

Other teams currently won’t be scared of us.

 

Solid player. Did they take up his extension? If not, he's out of contract. Good spells at Accrington and Fleetwood. I remember him moving to Fleetwood on loan because at the time a pompey supporting work colleague was surprised but the manager down there claimed it was easier to get him out as there were several clubs chasing him and then they could re-use his wages on a different position.

I'll ask him about him when I'm in the office next week. I suspect he'll have a number of offers though.

I dont disagree with what you say we need but the business of other clubs is absolutely dire.

 

Re Smallwood. Every day that passes without announcing his signing makes it more likely that he has already signed. That logic makes sense to me anyway. Good shout too that we're holding back until Watt is sorted out.

 

I've been using that same logic with Tshimanga for the past 3 years.

 

I will raise you Kieran Agard. 6 years.

 

The only slightly worrying thing is the same sources were passing on news that Odusina have signed. Surely that should have been released to cover up Paudies departure.

That said, the usual fanfare needs creating - videos, interviews, pictures etc. Signing and announcing different things nowadays....weve seen a gap of 2 weeks between previously this window.

 

I read a couple of days ago that the new Pools boss has said he is going to be speaking to all the players that have been offered new deals 'as a matter of urgency' when the players return for pre season on Monday. That doesn't sound very urgent to me. I know Hartley only got the job a couple of weeks ago but surely those conversations should already have happened!

 

He likes to drop hints now and again dont you think?

He does. Surprised he hasn't been on to give us an update today actually, now that the deadline is almost upon us.

 

I felt the same with regards Parkinson, 18th in league two was not good enough for a club of our size and stature, he should have been gone at Christmas.

 

I've looked heard we've signed Smallwood. But not announcing makes no sense to me. It'd be an excellent coup and one you'd think the club would have wanted to announce whilst ST sales are on the early bird deal.

 

Might be announced tomorrow on the final day….one last push to midnight tomorrow? Save the best news until tonight (we hope!)

 

Well there’s rumours circulating that Derby, Rotherham an Wigan are interested in Smallwood. Surely we’d of heard something to the contrary if it was true that we had signed him, no?

 

Given all the rumours I was expecting (hoping) that Odusina and Smallwood would be announced before the deadline or certainly before pre-season training starts on Thursday. As @Faithful Bantam says it makes no sense to wait so the more time that passes without them being revealed the less confident I am.
Smallwood would be marquee for our level so you’d have thought that he’d drive ST sales and I’d have thought that Odusina would have been announced when Paudie departed.
