If Angol had signed a new deal in February would you be classing him as a 'new signing' for this season? They never left the club, their deals never expired. They just signed a new deal. Doesn't make them new players.

According to the Walsall Forum, Flynn deployed Osadebe as a RWB. If that’s the style in which Hughes wants to play, I suppose we have got adequate cover in terms of LWB but we’d Need another 2 CB’s to play regularly in that system

 

I hope not. If we are ever to use a right wing back we have the perfect player already in Levi Sutton

 

Im not convinced we go 3 at the back. the 4-3-3 clicked towards the back end of last season.

Odasebe is primarily a CM who can play either wing too.

 

As it stands the first eleven is weaker than it was against Carlisle on the final day but the squad is arguably stronger.

We have to start signing players who will walk into the starting lineup. Smallwood and Odusina would be two in that mould so let's hope they get done and we sign another couple of that ilk.

 

Completely agree. Whilst quietly encouraged by the signings to date (coupled with the fact I trust Hughes to get as much out of the players as is possible), I’m not seeing any who jump out and push us to the next level.
Smallwood would be a big signing who could definitely do that

 

I agree - squad looks far better but I still think we need to replace Paudie, Watt and Vernam. Odusini, Smallwood and Pereira on a season long loan would change my opinion.

After that I would like another RB and a CF. I am happy for Threlkeld and Cook to depart if that's what is required. Id maybe argue for another WG but Eisa, Perreira, Gillead, Young and Angol would all be options.

 

If Vernam, Paudie and Watt leave they have to be replaced with genuine quality. The signings so fat cannot be considered as their replacements imo.

I’ve no idea on the state of the current squad due to not knowing a single thing about our signings but we have to trust the process. We still need 4-5 established top players imo.
I’m hoping our new head of recruitment has it spot on because otherwise we seem to be signing League 2 fringe players.

Signings I see so far look like we are identifying potential and ones that can plump up the squad. After the season ticket deadline will we have a good idea of what remains in the budget and who is available and we push the boat out on 1 or 2 before July 30th to really strengthen the starting 11.

And even then we can add 1 or 2 more up until September 1st.

 

Any realistic chance of Smallwood? Hull City on his cv and 30 years old…not really ready to drop down to League 2? Can’t be on a bad wage either. Absolute klaxon if he comes mind…

Smallwood was brought through Boros youth team and Gent was there helping him to develop.

Those top players will have options hence why they take time

 

You can put in bumper promotion bonuses, do a 3-4 year deal with a non promotion release clause etc. He doesn't need to shift his family, offer him some coaching
