He was still their best player and the fact he’s only just retired, having moved on to bigger things after Northampton, shows his capability.

No defender in the league would have enjoyed playing against a bloke with AA’s physique.

Our defenders would have been laughing in the dressing room when they saw the teamsheets - they may well have promoted us there and then.

Having a pacemaker fitted I wonder? Wish him all the best with his recovery.

I'm sure Andrew Davies mentioned he was relieved and surprised that Northampton didn't start Akinfenwa at Wembley.

Agreed, annoying thing about Harratt is that he was Town's youth team top scorer for the past few seasons, on our doorstep, yet we went for either journeymen strikers, the lad from Middlesbrough or Samuels. Which with Gent here now and the signings that have been made so far, look a lot more proactive rather than reactive.

Harratt only scored 3 league goals in his time there and 2 of those were in the same game.

I get that our signings were poor, no arguments there but it's a stretch to suggest this lad was the answer.

Not saying he was or even is the answer, just that he would have been a better option that what we managed to sign in the end. He's only been on loan for half the season, his first loan out and been behind Proctor and Wilson most games. Signing a random from Boro and Wolves because they looked good in a game against us, is not great scouting, to a youth player, that probably wouldn't have had to move, with the stats behind him to back up how good he was. It's just frustrating in the end that he went to Vale, when Sparks was quoted last season saying we'd be working more closely with our neighbors a bit more.

Im really struggling to get your point on this one. Why are you frustrated that a lad who has only scored 3 goals whilst been out on loan went to Port Vale rather than us because he plays for Huddersfield. Don't get this notion that we should only look at young loan players on out doorstep. Probably our best two loan players in recent years, Cullen and Burke, came from a London club, and only last season, a successful loan signing from an Edinburgh club

Agree. Now more so than ever. We can offer young players the chance of a season to train under one of the most experienced PL coaches in the game, and legend as a player, and to play in front of 15-18K demanding home fans every other week.

That's a huge sell in terms of development opportunity. There isn't a stronger club in this league, in that sense. And not many in the league above either.

Through the Parky period in league 1 you could argue the loan players were the ones pivotal to our success, the likes of Cullen, Burke and Pickford and to a lesser extent the likes of Reach and Evans. Now with Hughes as manager I'd like to think we could lure youngsters from the better quality clubs with the proviso that we play neat constructive football.

You're basically saying that he wouldn't have improved us but we should have signed him anyway as he was better than the other players that also didn't improve us. It doesn't make sense.

Completely agree. Josh Cullen was the best midfielder we've had since we were in the Premier League.

No denying the players you mentioned were mustard but in terms of success none of them were involved in either cup run or L2 promotion.

They made us a very competetive L1 side. To get players of that quality again we need to be in L1 imo.

The point is Harratt scored 32 goals in 47 games for Hudders youth team and we failed to pick that up, by bringing in Robinson, Delfonso and Elliot, all wasted wages. We even played Town B side in a friendly pre the covid season and their youth team have us a decent game. I'm not saying he would have come here and done well, it's just I don't get how no one at City picked up on the stats and thought to maybe have a look, but maybe that's down to Derek not wanting younger players.
I'm just glad now we seem to have a proper scouting set up and it seems as if we have a proper plan in place.

Ross hannah scored 785 in 12 games for his youth team. What's your point ?
