It's hard to know, sometimes there's a definite 'he's just saying words' vibe with our Ryan.

He'll probably completely contradict that tomorrow.

He's got very little, if any credibility left. It's about time he started delivering on his words.

I’d prefer he didn’t say anything and let his actions do the talking…

If we were to judge the quality of the interview on Ryan's words, I'd regard the interview as a good one and broadly what I'd have expected. Ryan highlighted many of the issues most fans would recognise as part of the failure of this season - poor recruitment, not enough players in the squad, not enough quality, not enough goals scored, too many players in the treatment room and so on. Ryan says all of this with hindsight but many fans identified these issues last summer when we could have resolved some of these shortcomings. Good management isn't about making decisions after the event but more about making decisions in advance and to avoid the issues becoming real. As an example most knew that there weren't sufficient goals in the squad to push for promotion. That should have been anticipated and resolved last summer. It wasn't .. but it could have been.

Will things improve this season? Ryan seems to be placing much of his trust in Hughes to recruit better, get more goals in the squad, reduce the numbers in the treatment room and so on. He might be right but it takes more to run a successful, football club than to simply rely on the experience and reputation of the team manager. He is the CEO of the club and at times has to question the footballing aspects of the club. Have we got the right balance? Are we using the budget wisely? Have we the right level of resources on the medical and analytics side? Ryan can't excuse himself from his own responsibilities. He has to move on from talking the talk to walking the walk.

Poor recruitment has been a problem for years and whilst I agree it is good Sparks is acknowledging how bad it was last year, it remains to be seen if lessons have finally been learned. He says it is not necessarily about how much money is in the budget but how it is spent, and hopefully Hughes, Hodges and Gent will do that more wisely this summer. However, they are still going to need a competitive war chest to have any chance of success, and it would be madness to bring someone like Hughes in and then not give them the proper financial backing they need to bring success. Sparks says we will have a budget bigger than 70-80% of the clubs in this league next season, which doesn't sound that great when it means 30 % of clubs will have more, so I remain slightly concerned that as a club, we are going to manage to f*ck it up again next season. Hope I'm very, very wrong.

You have to think that Salford , Stockport and Wrexham if they come up, all with owners with very big wallets and then maybe a couple of the relegated teams, would have greater spending power than city. I think after the last few season's of very poor decision's and very bad management, although most including myself thought Adams might finally do a job, Mr sparks needs to let the guys now in charge of the football side have every penny he can and use Mark Hughes as a pulling point.
We have the manager, we have the stadium, we have the fans, now lets get the team.

I doubt any of the relegated clubs will have bigger budgets than us.

As for Salford, no matter how much they seem to throw at it, clearly not working there.

Let's hope that only one of Stockport or Wrexham come up, and it's Halifax the other one via play offs

    Afternoon IB,

Have to say, wanting Halifax to come up, assuming to better/increase our chances next season is just wrong IMO.

Our football club should on its own two feet stand up to any opposition and with its fanbase, have a positive starting point.

Positivety around our own beliefs, structure and collectivity should matter more than opposition. But that's our potential achilles heel.

I agree whoever comes up we must focus on ourselves, it’s irrelevant if a league seems stronger or weaker each year as at the end of the day it’s 4th tier football regardless of the names.

I do hope Halifax come up though although I can’t see it, would be good to have them back in the league after so many years and it’d be good to have a West Yorkshire derby in the league for the first time in what feels like forever.

My only memory of Halifax was the FA cup game and a two legged league cup tie in the late 90s. Wish them the best, I’ll always cheer on the underdog over those that throw money at it like Wrexham.

Maybe not Crewe or Gillingham , who i thought were struggling financially. Doncaster and Wmbledon possibly.
I was just trying to think of 6 or 7 clubs who might have larger budgets next season. The current price increases will surely hit all the lower clubs hard, unless they increase ticket prices , which could also reduce sales.

Afternoon Dave. Are you going today or working?

I actually want Halifax to come up for no other reason than them being our near neighbours and would love to see them back in the Football League.

    I'm going today...

I'd love Halifax up too for the reason outlined by @WilsdenBantam@WilsdenBantam and yourself but also for Pete Wild, whom I have been championing for over two years.. The job he has done has been exceptional

I used to always go to The Shay whenever I couldn't afford to go to City's away fixture (so nearly always when City were away). I have a lot of time for Halifax Town. This was mostly through the late 60's/ 70's. I remember them beating Manchester City in the FA cup. More mud than the river Jordan!

But he does keep recruiting the people that do. Also anyone with half an ounce of football intelligence could see how poor the recruiting was at the time, a CEO who had knowledge of football would have vetoed several of them transfers. Unfortunately ours prefers rugby, greyhound racing and speedway

It wasn’t a great interview tbh, just waffling and meandering through it in terms of this seasons shortcomings and what’s ahead ‘on the grass’. Another reference to ‘not accepting mediocrity’ LOL.

It was disappointing and seems to be hanging his hat on the stadium pull but surely most players just want to play at as high a standard as able to.

The more he speaks the less and less enthused he sounds and he makes less and less sense.
