Just seen this on Twitter. Brilliant gesture from Ryan Sparks, I don't think anyone can question if his heart is in the right place. Simple gestures like this can go a long way and I'm sure the kid will remember this for a long time.

Anyone actually believe a word he says anymore?

The constant flip flopping certainly makes it very tough to do so.

anyone that carries on the guess who shenanigans of alluding to issues and not saying what they are can absolutely do one. it sounds petty but sparks has lost a lot of my goodwill coming out with something like that

That's appalling behaviour. Whatever Sparks' responsibility is in our current predicament, several lines have been crossed here by what I hope is tiny minority. I hope somebody can identify the nutters involved and get them out of our club.

I’d prefer he didn’t say anything and let his actions do the talking…

It's all about opinions I know but I think he gets a hard time from some on here. He has made mistakes, but we all do (don'twe?), and as said in a previous post he will have learnt so much through his experiences. Keep going Ryan, next season COULD be the one

Hughes only applied. Sparks went to his house, sold the club, outlined the plans and offered him a deal which Hughes found acceptable.

When somebody applies for a position they are only showing interest. They are not saying I will take it. If it was a shit meeting Hughes could have easily said 'sorry, not for me'.

I agree Kev, last couple of years it feels as though he’s had to much of a say in footballing matters(off field I mean not on), this is where a director of football or similar would have been beneficial in order to maintain continuity between playing style and managerial appointments etc. if feels like we’ve lacked footballing knowledge high up for a long time. All we can hope is between Hughes, Hodges and Gent we’ve brought in enough knowledge to build something capable of taking us forward. Mr Sparks should stick to solely business matters, not a dig at him but in any business play to peoples strengths.

I like Sparks, seems a decent bloke who has made mistakes but doesnt want to dwell on them. Backing McCall with a new deal was a big mistake but bringing in T&S and Adams wasnt met with any concerns. They just didnt work out.

Cant fault him for his off the pitch record. He is employing and surrounding himself with the right people to make things tick along better.

Hes appointed a top manager for this level and seems to be giving him a fighting chance by bringing in Gent and doing business early.

To be fair, @Fordy117@Fordy117 is right. We’re not progressing on the pitch at all.
We’re in the same position - give it one more season, see how we go before judging.
We continually fail or underachieve, then meekly give it one more season again.
It’s scandalous that we are where we are. We are where we as a club deserve to be, but that’s entirely down to the mismanagement on the playing side year after year.
I’ll be there on Saturday but not very confident we have addressed last season’s misgivings

I must admit I prefer to see a CEO walk the walk rather than talk the talk and I've not heard much from Sparks recently which is a big positive because off the field he and his team seems to be doing a lot of good work. Can't be pulling in those numbers like Saturday and not be getting things right l. A lot of this is tied to in the pitch matters such as big away followings and at last it seems there is light at the end of tunnel. I certainly see a more professional club than I did 4 or 5 years ago.

Let’s be right Sparks is young and he’s still learning but you can’t fault what he’s done this season

You mean the Hartlepool that are above us? Funny the disrespect people get when things go south here. Turnbull was seen as a god move when he joined.. Ill happily copy and paste all the comments if you like. Adams moved him on to bring in his own scouting network which is fair enough but to suggest Turnbull identified all our signings and they were all just signed off on his say so is just plain stupid.

The same happened with Drury.. People wanted him gone. People were putting the blame of the downward spiral of the club partly to him. Nothing has improved since he went back to coaching the kids and hes actually doing a cracking job at the moment. Just another example of not many people knowing what they are actually talking about.

Individuals as such aren’t the overall problem at BCAFC. The whole structure has been broken. We are basically rudderless. I hope Hughes can identify the issues others haven’t but im sceptical.

The exact same happens when people attack individual players within this rudderless set up. Best is when they expect loan players signed with no strategic intentions to come into the rudderless club and completely turn around our fortunes. But these very folk are usually the ones with their heads up their backsides, the same ones who thought this rudderless ship could still hit the playoffs despite the most obvious warning signs.

He's got very little, if any credibility left. It's about time he started delivering on his words.

If we were to judge the quality of the interview on Ryan's words, I'd regard the interview as a good one and broadly what I'd have expected. Ryan highlighted many of the issues most fans would recognise as part of the failure of this season - poor recruitment, not enough players in the squad, not enough quality, not enough goals scored, too many players in the treatment room and so on. Ryan says all of this with hindsight but many fans identified these issues last summer when we could have resolved some of these shortcomings. Good management isn't about making decisions after the event but more about making decisions in advance and to avoid the issues becoming real. As an example most knew that there weren't sufficient goals in the squad to push for promotion. That should have been anticipated and resolved last summer. It wasn't .. but it could have been.

Will things improve this season? Ryan seems to be placing much of his trust in Hughes to recruit better, get more goals in the squad, reduce the numbers in the treatment room and so on. He might be right but it takes more to run a successful, football club than to simply rely on the experience and reputation of the team manager. He is the CEO of the club and at times has to question the footballing aspects of the club. Have we got the right balance? Are we using the budget wisely? Have we the right level of resources on the medical and analytics side? Ryan can't excuse himself from his own responsibilities. He has to move on from talking the talk to walking the walk.
