The difference between us and them is that they were organised and had a game plan, Clough is no mug, he knew what he needed to do to keep the likes of Cook quiet. If we have ambitions of getting out of this division this is the level we need to be at. But to be fair to Hughes, he does not know the players. Give him a few sessions with them and rate our progress then.

That night game against Hartlepool was something else without doubt the best footballing side at Valley Parade this season (although it might have been a one off) and their lads made some noise, great night for a Hartlepool United fan .

 

Felt like their Cup Final that night, after the years in the NL.

 

And you know this how? . Serious evidence required , not from Football manager on PlayStation , needed to prove Mansfield are paying Newcastle less than £2k a week for his loan fee. Remember, I requested serious evidence please.

 

Stats don't always tell the whole story but he seemed to start going downhill before he left Hartlepool

I think it's one of those "young player starts well but doesn't yet have the stamina to continue" scenarios

 

He was Aberdeen for the first half of the season and barely played. The fact that he was at Aberdeen should give you a big enough clue.

 

Not relevant …his contract is with Newcastle. They pay junior squad members £6-8 k a week in the Premiership. So being on loan at oil rich Aberdeen has zero significance in terms of his salary.

 

david sharpe (Mansfield ceo) and Nigel Clough did a fans forum not long back and said Newcastle were very generous with the deal to bring longstaff here - they were desperate to get players out after bringing in many.

So what is it you are saying…he’s not on £20 k a week contract with Newcastle which Mansfield will be paying quite a significant part or are you saying Newcastle are stupid and letting him go on loan to L2 for peanuts, based on the CEO telling you nothing of substance?

 

It's relevant to what Mansfield are paying. It won't be huge if he was at Aberdeen in the first half of the season.

 

If you identify a risk Bronco - then you have something in place to mitigate against it - up to press i do not think Lavery or Robinson are the answer. We failed to address it in January to press- knowing that we had players who cannot finish.(hopefully Jamie Walker can help in this department eventually)
