I didn't like Adams and there may be more to it. Adams was wrong to publicly blame FCD and Canavan.....but he was right they were at fault. Canavan should have had the balls to admit it and not take his bat home. Now perhaps Canavan was standing up to the treatment of young FCD, but just fecking off doesn't help FCD either

Only problem is, that crap centre back was one of our top two centre backs by a country mile.

If money is our main goal, great! If fielding a halfway competent team is our goal, oh dear ..

 

He’d no need to get involved. I understand his frustrations but he’s the captain and we can’t afford to lose him for 3 games. We know how poor refs are so no need to go there.

 

That goes against all on here who savaged him for the incident.
The few who could see there was nothing in it and the Oldham player made a small incident into a big one was to blame.

So we are saying that we have a scouting network but it had not identified any central defender we could have gone for - loan or permanent at short notice. Surely there is always a risk you could lose players who are coming to the end of contracts.

Would Canavan have changed this team from mid table nothingness to possible play off chasers? Would he have made a big impact next season?

If the answer to both those questions is no then you need to re evaluate your post.

I think my main point though would be that he's not noticeably better than Songo'o or Paudie at centre half so we're no worse off anyway and have cleared some dead wood along the way.

 

He's miles better than Songo'o who looks a shocking signing to be honest.

But more importantly he's a real defender unlike Songo'o and Threlkeld and we don't have enough now.

 

The reason is irrelevant. It was still the right decision for the club.

If Niall was determined not to play again under Adams we did well to get a fee, Ryan was always going to back Adams even knowing Adams was finding it difficult to turn results around and ultimately he may have to sack him.

The bloke was dire. He had the turning circle of an oil tanker and for his height and bulk he got beat far, far too many times in the air at important times.

Have a look back at the highlights this season with all the headed goals we've conceded and see how many much smaller men are out jumping him to score.

 

He's not very good, but Songo'o as a centre back is about as bad as I've seen.

Explain to me what difference he would have made to this side until the end of the season.

If it doesn't contain "play off push" then what's the difference if he's here or not?

 

I'm suggesting nothing just pointing out when Niall took his stand it was the last day of the window, why would we be looking to bring a new CB in when we had several that could play that position.
Adams said he prefered to do transfer business in the closed season not January maybe he was happy to wait until the end of the season when as I say we had cover with regards CDs.

 

Exactly and we got money for him instead of having to pay him off or find a taker.
