every team throughout the land will concede silly free kicks but the majority know how to deal with that situation .......... we in a nutshell have a keeper who stays at home 90% of the time when he should be claiming the ball and two defenders in front off him who seem to be second guess if he’s gonna come out

 

I don’t remember the fantastic saves as for Adams his mistake was keeping Hornby and not bringing in a decent keeper

I don't think either of them are good enough really.

I remember a few keepers over the years who have had had certain flaws such as not wanting to come for crosses but are very good otherwise and a manager and defensive unit can work around that. Our two are just both inconsistent and sometimes good at some parts and then sometimes poor.

Tbf to both of them, our back four is hardly solid so they're always going to have more to do or we're going to give up at least 2 or 3 really good opportunities a match and that doesn't help them.

Of all our defensive group I'd probably keep Ridehalgh. He's looked effective with Vernam and hopefully would do as well with another similar player if we had one and looks decent enough defensively. The rest of them could leave to be honest. I'm not convinced any of the rest of them are good enough. They all have too many mistakes in them.

 

Move the highest earner of the two on - if possible - there is not that much between them.

 

Unfortunately I don't think we are going to be able to move either keeper on in January (hope I'm wrong) as I recon due to our mismanagement in pretty much every department, I bet both are on good wages and that will block any interest until there contracts expire in the summer.

 

To be honest if any club shows interest in any of our players and we are prepared to let them go, they would be daft not to move. Come summer they could be out of contract with no takers due to the volume of out of contract players there will be

 

Hornby's contract doesn't expire until summer 2023 as he signed a 2 year deal last summer. I thought at the time that it signalled l he was going to be Adams number 1, but then he ended up bench warming until last week.

 

To be quite honest, I feel more relaxed when Hornby is in goal and quite panicky when ROD is there.
If I personally feel like this, do the defenders feel similar, hence the indecision at times?

 

1 goal on Saturday came from a defender being indecisive (lucky not to concede due to a similar incident before it) and the other came from Hornby dropping the ball.

 

Same. I also feel there is less finger pointing when Hornby is in goal - ROD is always looking for someone else to blame whereas Hornby seems to own his mistakes.

 

Perhaps some scouts read this forum?

 

Not great but better than the alternative

 

I don’t know if it’s because we won, or because he’s not R O’D but I’m surprised at the lack of mention of Hornby’s part in the goal on Saturday, he was well out of position and let in a soft effort 19 yards out, R O’D was given all sorts of stick for not saving a more difficult one at Tranmere. The double standards on here is crazy.

They are both number 2’s and not the worst as back up, but we need a decent number one if we’re going to go up. Neither are.

 

I thought he was unsighted and the ball went through Canavans legs. Still thought he should have got something on it though.

 

Watched it a few times and did go through his legs but at that distance and the pace the ball was moving it was an easy save, only reason he didn’t because he was well out of position.

 

Correct, the shot came through the defenders legs and was late for the keeper to see as he came of his line, However from an angle the keeper cannot cover all the goal and the best of keepers will be beaten from a good angle strike,
