Re Charman, highlights of Darlo's game from the weekend are now out. As per the managers comments of his outstanding performance, if anyone has time to look at the video, look at his movement/goal what he could bring to the team in what we are lacking currently in Robinson and Lavery in back up to Cook and Angol. Also Spennymoor's Glenn Taylor (number 9) is very decent with 15 this season, the only problem is unlike Charman he's always been non league not come from a higher set up and also is 31 and not 24, so age not with him.

People were talking about 2 flying wingers though. McMahon on right wing is incredibly defensive and that was the point I was making, it's a defensive formation, not an attacking one. Can be incredibly effective on the counter attack mind, as long as you're willing to put up with long periods out of possession.

The best formation by far is 4-3-3 the one used by the majority of successful clubs and the most flexible, 4 at the back, 3 in midfield and 3 up top with 2 forwards and a winger who can drop in to midfield but stay out wide as an outlet,

Talking of rubbish, I don't get your answer. I was responding, to those who seem to have forgotten that Parky got lots of abuse for allegedly only ever playing hoof ball.

Genuinely perplexed, where this accusatory question has come from.

In any event, Parky's football was never the one-dimensional hoofball people pretended it was.

We did use it, it was definitely part of our core tactics, but it wasn't all we ever did. If it had been, we'd have been spanked most weeks.

People just like to focus on easy-to-understand aspects of the game, and boil everything down to brass tacks. It's hard to complain about teams that play a variety of styles, so every manager ends up playing one specific type of football in the minds of fans.

I'd take the chance on him Jab. As you say, he's got plenty of movement - unlike Robinson or Lavery.

Generally a manager will have a style of play, his modus operandi if you like, of how he sets up his teams. And Parkys is a more direct, play the percentages style of football. Not the prettiest as fans of every club he's managed at testify but effective if you have the players to do it. Not the only manager to do it, others have favoured the more direct approach.

I remember when we made that ill-fated quarter of a million pound move for Mark Stewart from Scotland, and reading pre-season previews about how his movement was second to none and he was going to cause defences all sorts of problems.

Unless I'm mistaken he never scored a single goal :OO:

Obviously, though, Charman's a different player and an out-and-out centre forward.

I am always sceptical of players coming up from non league without an obvious physical trait to give them some sort of advantage over defenders, but not all strikers rely on that. Eoin Doyle was neither fast nor good in the air, and he scored bucket loads in his career.

Wouldn't have minded either really, sounds like Leeds have given up on Edmondson, tried at SPL and L1 level and just struggles to make the cut at either.

Vale got him for cover for Jamie Proctor it seems. Proctor got 6 in 13 in L2 but had a hernia operation in mid October, played 20 minutes 5 weeks later and had to go off after jumping for a ball made him need stomach surgery, assuming they rushed him back? He's played 20 minutes in 3 months and seems all their 5 contracted forwards are injured after last saturday, wouldn't have been the worst time to face them...... although we'd still have conceded 3.

One of the best footie moves I ever saw was a Liverpool long ball out to the wing for Dalglish to pass first time for Rush to rocket into the net.

If it works. Who cares?? :)

AND he's used to playing with strikers who can't hit the target!

I always felt parky sides just did their footballing on the edge of the oppo box and never in our own half. get it into areas we can hurt the opposition as quick as possible and then do the fancy stuff. very old school approach but not as one dimensional as often thought.

All 4 goals at Chelsea and not a hoof ball in sight :) I mean the 4th Man City would have been proud of that .............. even if it was hoofball at least we weren’t a soft touch and it actually made us a club that was on the brink of going somewhere until some clown decided he knew better :( had the board or one man left Parky alone then I bet at least we would be in the top 10 of league one .............. still it’s nice to see how well the passing brand has got us ..............sat firmly in league 2

Essentially what Parky played with McMahon on the right and Stuart with Law on the left.

A very big percentage of transfer business is done in the last few days of the January transfer window players are often only let out on loan late in case of lots of injuries and full time transfers are often depending on moves elsewhere. I can imagine it will be worse than ever this year with the COVID factor
