A signing that was £250,000. Not a guarantee and that figure was governed by a clause in his contract, but it did show the better chance of success comes from signing players other clubs want as Wyke was wanted by others at the time. Did help that we'd received money for Hanson.

To be fair, this is all you're going to get when it comes to loan signings so I look forward to seeing what he can do

4-4-2 is a very defensive, counter-attacking formation in modern football which sees you have very little of the ball... try play with 2 CMs and 2 out and out wingers this day and age you'll get hammered every week

It doesn't say anything at all about how well prepared or otherwise we are... patience is a virtue! Not that we haven't all been hurt before but there's simply nothing to judge whether the window was a good one or not yet with 90% of it still to go

Yeah but Fergie stopped using 4-4-2 by the end of his career because his team were getting pulled apart if he tried it

Yeah. He was in demand at the time too. We were lucky his release fee was so low

Not me. I would crawl b@ll@ck naked over broken glass just to stick matchsticks in his turds.

442 doesn't always mean wingers, and doesnt always mean getting overrun. Parky's latter version of it had TMAC on the right of midfield and he was no winger. If you want two upfront, which most of us do, it's less defensive than 4/5/1 or even the 4/2/3/1 that becomes 4/5/1 in our case.

Interesting he’s taken number 28. Where there’s quite a few lower options free. This feels as though we can expect some signings who are expected first team ready. Or it was just his preference of number

Imagine not liking Parky. Christ. That was the sweetest sort of success under him, winning against expectation.

I was gutted when he left. Ruined my holiday lol

I seem to remember Tony McMahon started with squad no 29 at Middlesbrough at the start of his career so it may be through choice.

Ryan Loft to Bristol Rovers and Ryan Edmondson to Port Vale both look like promising signings for those clubs. Wouldn’t have minded them here as options.

I do believe the hoof football comment was overplayed, under Parkys time at the club (after his first season) we saw plenty of goalmouth action with the likes of Reid, Thompson, Morais, Yeats, Wells, with the driving force of Doyle and Jones in midfield

Those players gave us some fantastic memories.
And add to that Darby, Meredith and McCardle in defence.

Reid playing as an out and out winger on the left whilst on the other side Thompson playing right midfield, McCall had Marshall playing as an out and out wideman with Law playing left midfield.
