January transfer window

@JonButterfield - I was just thinking reading the thread just before I reached your post, that Adams although a bit dour and seemingly set in his ways, has got a team that really is not too far off. I know (from reading here and there) that the performances have been less than stellar but nobody has given us a Bristol City at home type beating and a closer look seems to back up the idea that a decent finisher is the principal reason behind our piss poor position in the league. So I have to Agree, although he’s not overly blessed in the charisma department, a decent bit of support from the owner could well see the draws turned into wins. We will see.

 

Yes sorry, I can see I jumped from one player to another when writing.. But “place of birth”: Bradford. How is that a tenuous Bradford connection? I was highlighting our love of “bringing them home” as a transfer connection. Like that lad down in Ipswich. Or our love of moaning about the “ones that got away”, such as Mason Greenwood.

Maybe there'll be a bit more patience now...

 

I wouldn't sack him at all this season, unless he takes us down - which won't happen. He's a very capable manager that needs to be given time and support to rebuild. We can't keep restarting. And I think that there's a lot to work with here - if he's backed to make 3 or 4 quality additions to this group, we'll have a good team at this level.

 

I don't doubt for one second that we'll add players. Whether we add the right players, players of real quality to improve on what we've got rather than shuffling the pack, is what I'll wait with baited breath on.

 

Think finding players of real quality in this window will be the problem. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a mix of youth loans or the odd out of favour player from the league above.

Listened the the latest Peterborough chairman podcast, he was saying they had 2 deals cancelled and 1 more looking like it's off unless the selling team can get a man they are after due to the new rules around needing a minimum squad incase of covid outbreaks. Think this will just trickle down the leagues and cause issues with deals all over the shop. Probably waiting for the Man Utd/Liverpool/Chelseas of the pyramid with 50+ pros on their booked to start loaning down to your lower champ clubs like P'boro/Hull/Birmingham so they can try offload their talent that cant hack it in the champ down to leagues one and two.

Dont think it will be as bad as some were making out last week, but deals will naturally take longer this window as selling/loaning clubs need to look after themselves.

 

Exactly, you have to stop the merry-go-round at some point and it's probably better on Adams than anyone else at this level. Besides which, we've allowed him to overhaul the recruitment, what's the point if you aren't even gonna give him at least two windows with it?

 

That said, I'm generally for giving managers more time... I called for more time for Parky when we were 18th then when he got 1 win in 21, it's not popular at all but I'd have given Bowyer more time and were it not for quite how dire we were last season (it was an extreme case, like the Peter Jackson team) I'd have wanted more time for McCall mk III too

 

Mad the premier league teams are allowed to hoard so many youngsters but also allowed to call off games for not having enough players... so much wasted talent

 

I think it would help the club, if Sparks revealed where we’re getting the money from to fund this “busy window”. DA stated last year that we’ve got no budget for signings, then a few days ago stated we’ve had no offers for any of our players. If Rupp HAS put his hand into his pocket, then surely it would be of best interest to reveal that, to get the fans off his back and earn some credibility. Because right now, most of us are sick and tired of hearing the same old charade each season/transfer window.

 

One loan signing for a championship back up is not gonna turn us into promotion contenders which is where we were promised we would be.
Yes it’s early days but if they are a couple more of this ilk which I expect it will be a poor window. Let’s wait and see but I’ve seen it all before. Kieffer Moore etc.

 

Probably just protecting our own interests as if you start making press releases to appease fans and clubs, for example, hear Rupp has injected x amount in City’s budget, that weakens our negotiating position for transfers. I don’t mind us downplaying things myself and keeping tightlipped on what we spend…..but only if we do still sign players and actually spend!

 

The issue here comes back to cheap season tickets £200 is a bargain. How many of our supporters would pay £350- 400
about half i would think.
Generating the same income and same problems , Playing squad or ground infa-structure.
There are many a lower league stadium far worse than valley parade.
