Still can’t get this right in my head. We spend ages chasing him allegedly, get him he has a half decent record from little playing time and we sell him before the seasons out?

He wanted to leave, he's a quitter.

You think we should have kept him if he wanted out?

Don't know the lad, but looks to me if he isn't King Sh!t then he isn't interested.

Should have stayed at AFC Fylde, to be honest.

It'll be the latter. Its not like we haven't got form for misusing strikers is it.

    We play one upfront.

cook surely gets a new deal.

donaldson may stay or be replaced. Burrell will go back and we might bring in another kid on loan.

but we dont need cook (or similar), novak and rowe. Two of those three would be fine if 4-2-3-1 is the way we intend to play again.

He’s not a team player for me. I was carried away in the early stages too by his thunderbolt shot that injured the keeper and he scored a few key goals etc.

he was far from a disaster but he just doesnt fit our set up. Him and cook are soooooo slow. Its like watching paint dry those two together.

The other week when Rowe led the line we looked awful. He’s slow and clunky and no matter how hard he hits the ball he’s less mobile than Barry Conlon.

good luck to him but we’ll notice a huge difference having novak and cooke linking up or cooke with cook again.

Rowe wasn’t our first choice in January.

Mullin was the one we inquired about. It looks daft now but it wasn't at the time because Cambridge had wobbled and he was out of contract in the summer (and some on here questioned at the time if he was a one season wonder anyway).

As it happened he’s carried on bagging for fun, Cambridge have kicked on again (Bonner should get manager of the season) and made a good decision to stay there, where he was settled, as he’ll win the league now and more than likely get his move to a Championship club in the summer now he’s also gonna win the golden boot.

Rowe became available because he’d had a bust up at Oldham and was easier to bring in, but he wasn’t our first choice.

Most players in City history with an injury record as dire as Novak's are instantly cut by our fans.

We'd be nuts to offer him a new deal.

I mean fair play for aiming high, but what planet were we on to think Mullin would be interested in going from a promotion fighting side to a side who looked destined for the national league.

It wasnt unrealistic then. After we beat Cambridge they were only 9th and no one at the club expected them to end up mounting a serious title bid. The promotion race was wide open then but they’d have been happy with a top 10 finish.

We could have easily bettered the money he is on now so that was another reason to think it was one to pursue.

Cambridge would have entertained a decent bid and potentially cashed in but the player didn’t want the move here. He was settled down there and knew of Championship interest this summer when he’s a free agent so was in no rush to leave. As its turned out his decision to stay there was inspired!

Both Walsall and Mansfield fans were split about Cook. Most called him lazy and overweight (could just be sour grapes), others liked him. He’s playing for a contract at the moment and giving 100% every game. Just watch, we’ll give him a 2 year deal and by October be asking where the Cook of this season has gone. Seems strange to me why Mansfield would get rid in their position.

It’s obvious there was a deal in place and the club didn’t want to risk him getting injured. Stick him in the squad and don’t play him then announce he’s leaving. Had they not done that there’d have been a bigger storm about his absence, before the game than afterwards.

There’s no getting away that it’s a strange one, but he did contribute to saving us from relegation, job done. Was Rowe good enough to go up a level, nah not for me. Looks bad on the club but correct decision in the end.

In order to attract decent strikers to the club, we have to make a couple of marquee midfield signings. That’s where the game is won and lost in most leagues, especially league 2. Players seeing that will be more persuaded to join knowing they’ll get chances.

Imagine been down the pecking order with the woeful Evans and Clarke starting before you and a management duo that seem so intent on playing one striker both home and away. No way I’d be hanging around as a striker.

We were never gonna sign the leading scorer in league 2. He can go upfront with Keiffer Moore in the nearly squad.

Maybe had we started the run 4 weeks earlier (under T & S) he might have been interested, but you’re right, there’s no way in the position we were in was he ever coming here.

Maybe we should be asking why yet another talented attacking player is running for the hills just a few months after joining us.

    Becoming a pattern isn't it?

According to the T&A Rowe was unhappy at the lack of game time and asked to leave. You call him talented but apart from a hard shot what else did you see him offering?

On first view this appears odd. He made a significant difference to the side when he arrived and was one of the keys to the run we went on. Had the ability to score out of nothing. A bit maverick. More recently has cut a frustrated figure as city play 1 up top. He wasn’t very mobile. Looked laconic even lazy at times. All This was after his illness which appears to have significantly affected him. If we stick mainly to 4/2/3/1 is he the mobile 1 you need. Not for me.
It still leaves questions of the management of him though. T&S now have much to show next season. The wave of optimism has dissipated as it always does. Will their results be more Parky or Bowyer at the start of next season? They need backing in the summer and a good start

Which goes back to due diligence again, which despite all the talk of it, clearly wasn't done. The fault lies firmly with the club on this one.

Maybe T&S didn't want him here in the first place knowing they would struggle to fit him in their preferred formation? He was a McCall target and Turnbull went out and got the deal over the line

Staying at a club challenging for promotion where you are getting service and banging them in for fun, against moving to a club staring relegation in the face is inspired?
As Fordy would say, give your head a shake!
