Knowing the score in advance takes the shine off it but years ago if you didn’t go it was the T&A and the Sports!

 

The Sports... If I remember correctly was that the pink newspaper that landed at newsagents about 5.45ish and for ever had.....

I recall running up to the newsagents on Moorside Road then Idle Road in the 80s/early 90s every week, when I didn't get to a game or when I had got home from VP walking through Peel Park

 

What was the penalty Forest Greens manager said they should have had. I saw the Donaldson scissor kick but not the one he was on about.

 

That’s the one. It’s proper name was the Yorkshire Sports , everyone called it the Sports, and yes Pink.

 

Yeah, sorry. Last season was so unmemorable I forgot about it altogether. Obviously I meant two seasons back.

 

Seemed to have better energy on Friday. The team looked jaded for a while. Squad depth and cover in centre mid is a weakness that can’t be underestimated. Looks like we had more energy and made better choices in possession which come when you’re not tired.
Hopefully this is the catalyst for another run into the playoffs. Forest Green ain’t to fear. the worry is that too many games in a short dove of time may set us back again.

 

As a kid i lived on Delverne grove and on a saturday evening , it was up to the news agents next to the Ching Hing chinese for the pink and a quarter of poor bens. Ah the good old days.

 

That was the other newsagents I used... God had paper rounds morning and night plus Sundays from there.. To pay to watch City (amongst other things). Didn't live far away on Musgrave Drive...

Think it was the air kick that their forward did. Can't remember anything else. Just think, had they gone ahead in the game, how many times would their players have gone to ground holding their heads?

Did Donaldson kick the guy though? I thought on first look that he kicked the ball into his head but didn't rewind to see it again.

There were two or three falling over incidents in our penalty area in the first half. One was a total air kick and the lad fell over. They basically play for it. As soon as there's a challenge someone falls over, when the ball is in the air someone jumps and lands on the ground. Then they all shout and appeal. It's obnoxious.

 

Oooo, that's a blast from the past, used to love poor Ben's when I was a kid. I used to buy a quarter of them and a quarter of butterscotch tablets (the chewy ones) and put one of each in my mouth at the same time. Match made in heaven that was.

 

That was my neck of the woods as well.Pink and T&A always had the stop press on their back page for latest scores..I used to look out for the cricket scores as well.Smiley face when City won and the frown when they lost.But that is way back in the '60's!

Donaldson, another good game. He loses his marker endlessly and plays the ball around well. Oh and knows how to win a foul when needed to.
RO, glued to his line throughout for corners and wide free kicks. They endlessly planted it on the edge of the 6 yard box, knowing he won’t come. (The oppo picked it up, we picked it up as soon as he returned, why is he playing?)
Our finishing was clinical , with I add a slice of luck with the second. It was forced however!

Where to start.?
No 5 was in the ear and face of the ref from the get go. Probably made up for his inadequacy as a defender.
Their bench was at the ref all the game. Some of the stuff I heard , I would regard as pretty insulting.
The gamesmanship runs throughout the team. Even the two young ( impressive at times) lads up front were at it.
One clear foul by City, ended up their lad doing a triple rollover to get the City lad booked.
Their arrogance thinking they could play two at the back with a man in pink playing faux centre half on the edge of the box was stupid.
I really do not see their league position in that team ESPECIALLY their back line. It’s awful!

It’s first immediate impressions but a satisfying watch. Now to read the thread!
