Next Permanent Manager (now with Poll amended to include Truemen/Sellars)

Can we stop the notion that valid criticism of todays announcement is in any way negative towards T&S and their ability as coaches, it is incredibly disingenuous. I haven't seen anyone slating T&S, but rather the nature of the appointment. I remain sceptical about whether it is the correct decision, because I don't see 4 games as a big enough sample size. It could be simply the players riding the wave of the managerial bounce, but we don't know. Either way, I don't think anyone can deny their work over the last few weeks has been deserving of a longer time in charge.

However, today's 'appointment' is nonsense as far as I'm concerned, it's neither one thing or the other. For a CEO who has spoke about long term plans and goals, this is the shortest of short term appointments.

Those graph on there tells you everything about what was going wrong under Stuart. Only Colchester and Salford face more shots than us. Under Trueman and Sellars, we are conceding far less.

Looking at the xG table at the bottom of that link shows we are a lower midtable sort of side. That is nothing to celebrate given we were supposed to be gunning for the top 10 - pressing for the play offs - this season, though it doesnt suggest the threat of relegation is as bad as some may think. There really are some hideous sides in this god awful division.

 

nah, it makes sense, this club has just recently been bitten handing out extended contracts. Nothing half arsed, it’s a wise choice.

 

I am positive about t&s thats why I think the way this has been done is negative. If they are good enough now, give them a permanent deal until at least the end of the season.

I take that point but we don't know whether the opportunity has been wasted though beacsue we don't really know if could we actually get the manager we wanted - if the answere is yes we could then your right but it'd be madness not to have pulled the trigger on it but tgat makes me think we couldn't. If not then he's doing the right thing but for common courtesys sake he can't just come out in the press and say all the managers have been crap we don't want them.

You can't build a squad in Jan it'll be loans or short term deals.

You never know it might go well under T&S try a bit of positivity pal the players are buying into it which is improving performances and results and Conors dad has played at at a very high level and will be well connected in the game in his role at Wolves and I'm sure hell be helping them too.

 

At last a voice of reason. Always happens on here though, you mention anything some wrongly take as a negative and they lose their shit.

 

You said yourself four games is a small sample. He’s now giving them longer to prove themselves, without handing them a three year deal on the back of four games

Exactly this. If Trueman and Sellars are better than any of the candidates interviewed, Sparks should have the courage of his convictions and give them a proper contract, not this wishy washy interim rubbish.

I'm not sure anyone is asking for three year deals. A deal until the end of the season with a year option maybe? Something that is long term but has a get out of jail card in there in case it doesn't work. How can you plan long or even medium term when your manager is only here "until further notice".

 

Didn't the club go that way before giving Stuart an extention when there was no need, we were struggling on the pitch poor results and nobody knocking on the door wanting Stuart as their next manager.

With T&S being given the job on an interim basis they know exactly where they stand and what"s required to keep their position as well as the consequences of not doing so.

They keep getting results they have a great chance of securing their present position with regards it being on a permanent basis.

I'd prefer a new manager, but as we're going nowhere this season and clearly the new management team have made an impact, it make sense to let them continue but without permanence

That's even more valid now we have a proper recruitment chief as it marginalises the negative about the two coaches lacking transfer knowledge

I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Ryan Lowe been available in he summer and the coaches great work allows us to take our time for once

I can't see any negatives. Well done to the club recently. Giving McCall a contract was daft, but was done probably to show the players that McCall was going nowhere - which which is why it was daft. But since then Sparks has done the right thing

I changed my mind about our need for a new manager as soon as I listened to the way the team celebrated with the team last Saturday. It would be crackers to break that, when we clearly are not certain about who's best for us going forward

Who know maybe they'll drive us up to the play-offs. I doubt it, but it'll be a nice problem for Sparks to have. Or they fail and in, say, in March we get a new manager to bed in for next season or we bounce along until next season. New Manager / proper recruitment and actual crowds!!

 

Why? There's no need. What's the point of committing our money to something that has no positive outcome for us.

Truman and Sellars accept the situation. If the players feel like you, then they run through a brick wall for them - we win 10 of the next 12 and barnstorm into the play-offs and then we give them a contract

Jewell was appointed on a temporary basis and had to do the 13 matches, remaining that season, before Richmond gave him the permanent contract and he'd worked closely with Kamara (hilariously Richmond promised him a two year contract just before that embarrassing 5-0 mauling at Crewe)

I fail to see what's wrong doing it to Sellars and Truman
