I'm not sure why he thinks two teams playing the same system means you end up scraping a draw. You don't have to play a different system to your opponent in order to win.

 

Yeah he run a marketing company during his original spell here. In fact if memory serves me right, his company "purchased" all the advertising boards giving city a guaranteed income but then duly "let" them himself at a nice profit for his company

 

Really weird outlook isn't it? Never heard any one in the game say anything along those lines.

Trying to figure out a system that in theory would hurt the opposition and then trying to shoehorn the limited players at your disposal into it seems utterly counterproductive.

 

Exactly, which is why I hope he doesn't think 4-4-2 is the way forward with this lot. It'd mean playing a poor player in DMH and then a player not in his best position in Pritchard. Back to the 3-5-2 that looked fairly solid in the opening few games for me.

Agree. In fact he even told us how successful teams set up in the interview. He can't see the wood for the trees.

Says he has always been a horses for courses manager but in reality very little success has come from that approach. He cited Harrogate and Newport as being good teams who set up a certain way. Doh! There is your answer. Set up a certain way, play to your strengths and see what happens.
That is what is frustrating so many fans right now. We can see it, now hopefully the penny has dropped and we start to play in a manner that suits the players abilities.
I do hope that the players or at least ROD had a word with SM as well to say look boss you are confusing the hell out of us. Newport was the best example with players all over the place. It cannot be good for morale.

He's panicking already that's why. He knows he shouldn't of gone from the 352 setup he did in pre season. Why change something that appeared to be working!?

 

I agree in my opinion that set up suits the players we have best. People were pushing him to change it though after Harrogate

 

I wouldn't say he is panicking but it is good to hear that he has finally admitted the team isn't good enough to chop and change formations week in week out.

 

McCall is a legend and we all should be wanting him to do well but we are currently 10 points off top. I am not interested in how far away we are from the play off's. I aim high.

Think @Bronco said give him until the start of next year. I just think that's a little too late because we need a new manager in before the Jan transfer window. I would give McCall another month and if we are still bottom half then he will need to go unfortunately.

This is exactly it IMO, he touches on that in the article. The nearly squad were able to play multiple formations but this squad struggles but i think its best to stick to a formation in league two.

 

He changed it after that Lincoln thrashing and has constantly tinkered ever since. He is definitely feeling the heat as if he doesn't get this job right that's his managerial career pretty much over.

 

I'm not sure he is, most were saying he needs to stick to preferred players in a formation they feel comfortable with, so basically he's doing what most wanted him to do.

 

So why does that suggest he's panicking, if we get a result isn't that what we all want ?.

Short sighted approach. Wait until new ceo is in then evaluate things. Your knee jerk reactions won't help at all.

 

I am not suggesting he is panicking but I think a bit of realism has set in. It would be nice as much as possible to keep a settled side. I don’t think formations matter as much as consistency of performance
