It should never have come down to choice to appease the fans, my view has always been I wanted an owner to instruct the CEO to appoint a manager based on a long term vision for the club. The supporters are in no way to blame for whoever the hierarchy decide to appoint. Even though the appointment was lazy, literally the press of a phone number, I was behind the appointment but with the usual reservation of Stuarts management style. Unfortunately the problems we feel at the moment go deeper than the appointment of McCall as manager.

Have some respect for the man and call him by his name will you? To call him Teflon is both churlish and immature and to suggest McCall gets a free ride is way wide of the mark. Stuart might not be getting great results, and some of the criticism is perfectly valid, but he deserves more respect than being called Teflon, he’s one of a handful of modern era players who are genuinely befitting of the title a Bradford City legend.

We currently have a squad of 26 players.

Out of that number, we have re-signed:
    • O’Donnell
    • Cooke
    • Motley-Henry
    • Clarke
    • Evans
We have given contracts to youth players:
    • Staunton
    • Cousins-Dawson
    • Sikora
    • Shanks
    We have signed on loan:
    • Hosannah
    • Samuels
    We have signed:
    • Sutton
    • Watt
So effectively McCall and City have given new contracts to half a squad. So lets be balanced, McCall may have inherited some players, but under his tenure, a lot of places have been filled with the players above.

Quite right. And the idea that Stuart gets away with a free ride is wrong. From what I see, very few people seem to be resolutely being behind 'Stuart is the man for the job'. At best, most are behind him temporarily on the basis of recognising that change needs to start at the top, before any move to change the manager.

    Mike Hunt.

As a player he deserves and gets my respect.

As a manager I will treat him exactly as I would treat any other manager and will continue to use the name Teflon or would you prefer McCrap?

In my opinion they both accurately describe the manager we currently have.

True, but let’s also not forget that even before the salary cap was announced if was obvious that JR had told Stuart that he had to stick rigidly within budget. So he’s got to get a squad of 22 players or whatever. I don’t believe for one minute he wanted Donaldson to stay but he triggered his own contract extension. AO’Connor will also be on a high salary and another player I’m not convinced that Stuart rates.

Moving contracted players on is also expensive. Guthrie wouldnt have left without some kind of pay off. Players like BRE also do not suit McCall’s style, but he’s stuck with them.
Presumably pay offs contribute to the salary cap.

A manager (whether Stuart or anybody else) really needs 2 years to mould his players to what he wants. In football that just doesn’t happen.

I'd think anyone coming in as CEO would be asking that question, what's more I would think if it was the likes of Dave Baldwin he would get in touch with Gordon Gibb with regards the situation of buying the ground back at some point.
It certainly won't happen as long as Julian has ties with the club, for reasons that have been well documented and debated on here.

I wish the club would have told us they was going to give up on the season 7 games in before I bought a season ticket

his biggest challenge now is how to get a team playing without getting a lot of time to work on it during the week.. this is why pre-season is so vital and it is imperative that you get off to a good start to a season so that confidence grows in the squad and in the fanbase.

    with pretty much every mid-week taken up until Christmas (haven't checked the fixtures) he won't have much time to drill them for hours on the training pitch. the schedule will be something like;

Saturday = game, Sunday = rest, Monday = light session and prep for Tuesday, Tuesday = game, Weds = rest, Thursday = big day, Friday = light session for Saturday, and so on. this only really gives him Thursday to really drill the players.

I wouldn't expect much change in style, quality or approach to games any time soon.

During Bob Martins day he introduced a City lottery for the then manager John Napier if I remember correctly and had a vision going forward that ended in Jack & Stafford buying the club with the help of fans donating money.
The two clowns who bought Julian & Mark out had a vision that also turned out well.
Geoff was certainly a man of his word Premiership football being his goal within 5 years ?, unfortunatly at the present time (excluding Covid) the best we could hope for is to be a good Championship club, I can't see anyone taking over and throwing the kind of money that would be required to get us to the promised land at the club.

You may be correct why Julian brough McCall back, old buddies and all that but they are other reasons why Julian might have thought Stuart was the right appointment at the time and covered it in a reply to you a fewl weeks ago.
I think his appointment once Bowyer was sacked was that we still had a chance of getting a play off place the players would be quite aware of what Stuart meant to the fans and club.
Julian hoped Stuart would get a new manager bounce that would get us into a play off finish at the end of the season then as we know it's down to the best team on the day, we will never know I accept we did not get the reaction from the players but as Covid curtailed the season we cant say for sure one way of he other, if if had been a appointment to bring his buddies back he would have given him a 2 year deal at least IMO.

He's a very good poster who doesn't need to stoop to the level of calling Stuart "Teflon" mybe it's a way of getting a responce from fellow fans.

    I agree.

The message was there as we reached the end of the transfer window. It's obvious now that we don't have the capability from our strikers to score sufficient goals to worry the promotion contenders. It's a pity that message wasn't provided earlier instead of saying we were after a string of strikers only to settle for bringing in 1 former striker who hadn't played thst role for a few seasons and then placing our faith in a youngster who may or may not deliver the goods. But it's OK, it's only just over 9 weeks before the transfer window reopens!

The trouble is new managers are usually appointed after the previous manager has been sacked for poor results poor recruitment and often because the club is in trouble.
This means appoints are often rushed and ill considered I have long argued when appointing managers the club should ignore the fans clamouring for so called big names and instead do what big business does which is interview as many people as possible. Explore their philosophy and How keen they are in managing the club. Also talk to people who have had dealings in the past.
The time frame for doing that suggest it should be towards the end of the season whilst acknowledging that can’t always be possible.
So next time let’s appoint the best man for the job not necessary a familiar name club legend or even a previously good footballer

There were a few when he was appointed who question the appointment unfortunatly most were content to give him yet another try, since then things have not gone as we fans would have liked (to say the least) so even the most ardent McCall fan couldn't put a positive spin on where we are since his appointment.
If he can't get a tune from these players maybe a positive is that he's only been given a 12 month contract, then it will be back to the managerial merry go round and getting lucky possibly finding someone who could give us a little sucsess going forward.

Has to be your best post of 2020.

I'll add that we need to stop with the not wanting to pay for the manager we want. If the best man for the job is at another club then go get him.

    We're not the job centre!!

    Totally different

The club isn't in a position for an apprentice CEO now.
