Every club would be in red though, as they’d have to refund fans again. If this season doesn’t finish it will kill probably a majority of clubs in the football league. We can’t afford to shut the country down again as we did before, millions more will lose their jobs, suffer with mental health, die of other illnesses. That said I wouldn’t trust this government to make the right call.

Tend to agree there. I shudder to think what the professional football landscape will look like this time next year. 3 leagues instead of 4? Semi pro football decimated?

That would be a blindingly brilliant astute bit of business, unfortunately with the people in charge at VP I see it more as lucky.

I can’t find any EFL restrictions on squad sizes for League 2 this season. I know it has been talked about. Clearly a salary cap and requirements about ‘home developed‘ players, but nothing about the squad. Have you a link? I believe there is a 25 player squad For the Championship.

    Several
Are there any Squad size limits in place?
League One and League Two clubs will be limited their squad size to 22 players for the 2020/21 season.

This will be reduced to 21 and 20 in subsequent seasons (2021/22 and 2022/23 season respectively).

Players aged under the age of 21 are exempt from these restrictions.

Thanks for that. I couldn’t find it on the EFL site. I reckon that City have 6 players out of a squad of 23 who are below 21. So potentially scope for upto 5 more players.

Let's not cancel the season just yet... this Government could reverse the latest reversal just as easily as they reversed it in the first place.

It's going to be a bit morbid, but there's going to be a lot of eyes on the death rate, and whether it actually does what the experts are predicting.

It'll also depend whether they plan to manipulate the number of deaths that were actually due to covid again or not.

Anyone know anything about this Tunnel that we are supposed to be getting? Never heard of him personally, what position does he play?

two articles written on widthofapost on the club and it's leadership, with not one mention of the managerial team. no wonder we're not going anywhere fast.. a successful club is led by its manager instilling a vision and plan of where he wants to take them. he then goes to the board and tells them what he wants to happen and what he needs to get there. we're rudderless and toothless in all aspects at the moment and until this changes, nothing else will.

No arguments on the rudderless comment - but very few clubs succeed on the basis of a vision set by the manager these days. Direction, ambition and strategy start with the Owner and Board.

Think you've got that slightly the wrong way round. The placing and the vision has to be led from higher up the chain these days, whether that's a DOF or similar or even the board itself.

I'm not sure though, it was Ferguson that turned Man Utd around. Klopp that transformed Liverpool. Bielsa that got Leeds back to the Premier League. I agree that they wouldn't have happened without the board putting them in the position to be able to do so but it was their position to demand the structure in place to do it.

I would be too confident, doesn't sound like he is either, "We've got to get some work done and hopefully bring a couple of bodies in. But it’s not always as easy as that. Obviously this week is about getting through it unscathed – certainly with regards to not getting any injuries to our defenders. But we'll see what happens.”

see what happens, in other words - "we'll see what crops up."

    I actually agree.

The management team has a strategy to achieve the goal they have set. They put that to the board who then (assuming they agree) fund it.

The board may set some high level goals, for example, promotion to League 1 in 2 years. The management team take that, build their plan to achieve it and go back to the board with how they intend to deliver that goal, what is required to make that happen and what are the envisaged costs.

This isn't just the playing side, all sides of the club need to put in place a plan to achieve the goal. Ticket Office would expect more sales so how are they going to manage it, Hospitality would expect higher demand, how are they going to manage it etc etc

That is how it works in a business isn't it? The board set high level goals, each department breaks that down into their individual plans on how they get there this all comes together in the budget.

Why do we push everything up to the board?
