Would you be excited with that signing, I'm not sure I or most would, in the past Scunthorpe have been held up as an example of a forward looking club buying decent players backed by an ambitious owner, yet still in league two.

    Yes, I believe that.

Last season we had an extremely poor manager that wasn't right for the club in any way. That was main problem.

Why do you think Chelsea are spending all this money on quality? You buy quality in football to hope for improvement. Liverpool brought Alison and VVD many saying that made them the side today.

You get quality in because they are better than what you have and they raise the bar for others.

You're not a fool. You get this!

Good reply and I get many fans frustrations, on paper certainly 3 clubs look to have made good acquisitions but as I say are they strong in other positions or are they in Boltons case going to hope the senior pros are going to lift the kids.
Could McCall get more from the likes of Zeli, the O'Connors, Cooke, Pritchard etc as he did in his first season back with regards the players Phil had left at the club, not suggesting for one minute the players Bowyer left are anywhere as good.

Of course I get it but to put us in a similar situation to Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City or Man Untd is hardly a good comparison, they all have owner who realise just what being successful in the Premier League and potentially Champoins League can bring to their clubs, where as I dont need to remind you we dont have that kind of owner no matter how much fan's quote that he is a very rich owner.
Even more so with regards the salary cap, a few clubs bought before the deadline and look to be getting one over on the EFL and likes of City.
Salford dont have a problem if they don't go up they have several big backers not too sure the same can be said for Bolton.

That could be because us older gits including Park Bantam,
paid our hard earned money to support our team for decades
enabling the younger generation to enjoy the good, bad and
ineptness that is BRADFORD CITY! CTID.

No, I wan't comparing us to Liverpool, Utd and Chelsea but highlighting clearly the aim or fooball or any business is to get quality in. Yes, like any business sometimes it just doesn't workout but you try your best to make it happen.

We do have a rich owner for div 2 standards though but we choose to operate under Captain Admin's methods.

Look, the squad isn't good enough. We can HOPE McCall gets the best out of these players but we need more quality in the squad.

Would we all agree our LB is our best player? Well that says it all doesn't it?

Good spot. Yes, he played a few friendlies.

I'm assuming there's a cut off point for the squad to count - could be end of the transfer window this year which would be odd because it closes after 6 games but there needs to be flexibility for teams to bring players in and release them.

I guess it wouldnt be like football manager where you can't sign someone because you don't have a slot in the team list!

Any actual transfer news/rumours or are we still going into the season without a recognised rwb, a ball playing defender, a hard tackling dm/cm and a pacey direct striker?

It's interesting though when we look back because although we all criticise the defense we didn't do that badly. Cheltenham had by far the best defensive record then we were one of six clubs who conceded 39/40 goals. That would tell us we need to create and score more and perhaps the defense can keep working together as a unit and improve?

It looks like we are short of players still though and I fear injuries. Wonder what happens with the cap if you don't have enough fit first teamers due to injury?

I very much admire your efforts and I hope you keep going but it's hard to see how you're going to change their minds. They are absolutely determined to see that everything is shit. The club, board, stadium, manager, players, tea lady, fans. They have barely a positive word for anyone except other clubs/boards/managers/players who are almost always better than ours/we are. I can usually smell an 'everything's shit' message quite early and have stopped reading them. I understand some of the frustration but it's been a bloody long time since we saw some football. It cannot come soon enough. Keep up the non-negative work, Bradford End.

At the moment as fans that's all we can hope for McCall gets the best out of what he has, still time for another striker although after watching the Town friendly I'm not sure Stuart will have the right back position as a priority.
I was using the teams you quoted as an example of owners who realised the potential of being one of the best teams in the Premier, where as Bradford City are league two and I dont think anyone believes Rupp will fund any sort of gamble to get us even to the Championship.

No of course not. I was just surprised they are allowed to keep signing players when by my calculations, they are already over the maximum squad size (taking into account the under 21s that don't count). I know they might be planning on shifting some out but what happens if those deals don't come off?

It's not dissimilar to how the PL works now, in fact that's where the idea came from although the PL has a max of 25 players plus use of their under 21s. We'd have to do something similar.

If we had say half of our Ist team 21&over squad out through injuries (however unlikely that is), we'd still be able to name 11 players plus another 5 under 21s for the matchday squad. It might be an unusual looking formation but that's how we'd have to deal with it!

If that's the case, they can still sign how ever many they want if they are so stupid. The EFLwill do something similar to what the PL does and require clubs to name their 22 man season squad (excluding under 21s) once the transfer window closes. That means that if you're not named in the 22 man season squad, you can't be named in the matchday squad. If the club doesn't comply, they'll forfeit the game. I suspect that if any EFL club finds themselves in that position come the start of the season, the excess will be loaned out.
