They are but we are crying out for an out and out RB - not another player who can just do a job there if needed when we already have Sutton and AOC that can do that.

Funnily enough, when I saw his name linked with Cheltenham last week, I wondered whether he would be someone of interest to us

It was a lucky 9th because had the season finished I think we'd have finished a lot lower

How much is a lot lower?

There was a seven point gap between us and 12th place when the season ended with nine games remaining. If I remember correctly McCall took seven points from his six games in charge. Granted nobody can know for certain, but I reckon we would have got ten points from the remaining nine games, leaving us about 11th or 12th. I agree we would have finished lower, but a lot lower is a stretch.

12th or 20th, either way it was a spectacular failure. I'm not even sure it's worth debating.

I don't think it was a spectacular failure.

I take the point that we might have finished a little lower than 9th - I take the point that our defence wasn't great - I take the point that our midfield needed an overhaul. I get that we didn't handle our striker situation well, and continue to fail in that regard.

But on what merit was last season a spectacular failure?

Let's be honest, we finished 24th in League One, and we weren't even close to finishing 23rd. Our performance in League One was miserable, the worst I can remember. We were horrible, horrendous, we sacked a co-chairman we were that bad. I keep getting told we aren't a big club, so discount that: on what possible rationale were we supposed to achieve more than we did?

Does every team that finishes rock bottom by a mile in League One expect to sweep League Two without serious financial involvement?

    Of course not.

So what was it that gave us this advantage that we should have finished higher than 9th?

I didn't see it then, I don't see it now. There's a reason I never thought we'd do well last season, but I'm curious as to why we should have?

We would have definitely finished higher without the almost unprecedented injury list we had in parts of the season

Really? Donaldson long term what were the others. Devitt perhaps although not sure what difference he would have made.

Last years problems were because of the players , managers and boards failings. Nothing to do with the treatment room

I think where/would have finished is a good leveller as to what we are as a football club, its not spectacular in terms of failure because in truth thats what we are at this moment and have been regularly over our history and thats an average league 2 side. Had we been a regular championship side then yes, last season would have been a spectacular failure.

We've got a different mindset and expectation of our club then.

I imagine though, prior to what did happen, if another club went into a League 2 season with Vaughan, Doyle and Donaldson as their strikers you'd certainly be deeming them as a failure had they not at least been comfortably in the top 7.

Never mind last season, we're a failure as a football club.

So, aside from debating what should or shouldn’t have happened last season, are there any serious transfer rumours?
Last season we finished 9th who knows where we would have finished, the official records show our position. Let’s put it to bed and discuss the title of the thread.

It might be a long shot and a stab in the dark but I'm taking a wild guess and assuming there aren't any rumours which is why the rumour threads keep going off on a tangent.

There are no rumours. Let's get back to discussing why we finished 9th last season, its more interesting.

Better way of putting it is we'd have finished higher if we'd have had a different owner, CEO, manager, coaching staff and players.

Well, let's hope we don't have a 'unprecedented injury list' next season..... The "squad" will be found out...

If we had rumours with creditablity then we would be talking about them.

This lets not talk about anything else until we have rumours to talk about is stupid

It would nice if I could feel like this:

The thing that I like the most about our transfer policy Rhodes, is that they don't care at all about the fans' desire for new shiny toys in every transfer window. Rhodes has a clear plan how to build the strongest squad in the World, and they execute that plan with precision year after year, without creating any debt. I know that fans don't get too excited about players like Watt, because they are not big names and don't cost much, but players like these are the new building blocks of the fortress for McCall. Whatever happens next, I am completely relaxed about it, because I know that there is a plan in place, and some of the most competent people in the World to execute that plan.

Why can't we debate what I have wrote above? The lines above highlights why Rhodes has to go because I have no confidence in him.

Transfers isn't just about the players. Rupp, money, Rhodes, McCall, agents, other clubs are all connected with transfers.

Thing is we will never get to that point if we act desperate and want a shiny new toy everyday. Stop acting like a kid in a sweet shop!

Well there is a limit of 22 players this season not counting youngsters. So everybody in the same boat.
