Cant believe you don't remember us changing ends Dave, used to go along the Midland Road side, sometimes there was a stand there sometimes not, prefered standing in the Bradford end as it had a roof.

Newport fans on their forum are very unhappy about this incident, apparently this guy with the flag has previous for causing unrest.

Agree it should not be glorified but it was an era that you went through at the time, people make out it was all young fans but games I attended where it kicked off you could tell who the trouble makers were, and they were not always kids.
As recently as the Milwall game at Wembley there were a couple of dozen Millwall fans giving it large on our level and only a few stewards and some netting keeping them at bay and they were grown men certainly many in their 40s, not sure how it would have finished if we'd snatched the late winner.

Can't even go out of the ground for 2mins to go to the car & back these days.

The police presence the day when Newport came to town.someone put a picture on of the police outside the Bradford Arms ?, police in the ground in the Newport section and I posted as we went for our car after the game the police were escorting 30/40 Newport fans down Nestfield Street who could not have attended the game.

Biggest police presence seen at VP for a long time which surprised everyone walking up Midland Rd on the day. It transpired that they had been tipped off about a well known firm from Newport that had travelled up intent on causing trouble. There were even police from South Wales on duty at VP that day

Our group always stood in the Bradford End, I cant remember changing ends, my memory might not be what it was but when you grew out of chanting and the usual stuff that went on the the Bradford End we tried the Kop but finished in the paddock up against the wall in front of the kiosk by the side of the "gents", and were there until that tragic Lincoln game.

I remember vividly games against particularly Barnsley where there has been a lot of mostly friendly banter with the occasional bit of heat. But it was a different era a different world

I'll tell you what I do remember, when times were bad and we did a half time blanket collection, where 4 or 6 lads would hold up a blanket and the crowd would throw money into the blanket but some of our fans thought it was a bit of fun to throw the pennies (old pennies) at the lads carrying the blanket, b@stards I tell you, bruises all over you body and worse if you got hit in the face, health & safety would have had a field day.

They used to have cushions in the main stand and after a bad performance they used to hurl them on the pitch at the end

Tell me about it, me and our lads job was to sell them before the game and collect them after the game.
Better get back on topic, we'll have our collars felt ;).

Before that one of Bronco's duties were to go and fetch Big Bobby from The Belle Vue at 5 to 3.....
