Let's not pretend that this is a modern day thing, I'm pretty sure football terraces have always been full of hate.

Well I was brought up with good values..and more and more these values are absent in today's generation. We had discipline and yes we let off steam at vp..but there was none of the aggro associated with the more aggressive behaviour around today mate.

What era are we talking about? Because violence etc at football was much more rife than what is now, it's not like we're talking about someone who was a kid either in this incident.

Football is the most sedentary and best behaved it has ever been, isn't it?

Maybe the flat cap crowd of the 30s was amenable, but there have been much worse generations of fans...

I don’t know how old you are but in the early days when I started there was no segregation home and away fans stood together and I remember friendly banter with teams like Barnsley. Ah those were the days

I am stating a fact that in the early '60's when I travelled with the BCFC Supporters Club, of which I was a member..We never encountered antagonism or witnessed violent behaviour from opposition fans. What I was referring to was vitriolic verbals.OK ,there was banter going on but good humoured.

And we could change ends at half-time so we could be behind the goal City was attacking.

It was before Maggie, but her idea was fences I believe with Ken Bates threatening to electrify the fences at Chelsea.
Thank goodness City never put fences in front of the old paddock.

It’s important not to generalise whole generations with nostalgia, every generation has had issues. Football was at it’s worst in the 70s and 80s in terms of violence, racism etc. The trouble is while most grew out of it the odd idiot didn’t ( I believe the guy who made the comment was of an age where he probably started going in that era), and now you get kids(mid/late teens) emulating them and treating them like heroes wanting to be like big bad Millwall or Leeds from the 80s. The worst behaviour I’ve seen in recent years at a match was a bloke in his 30s/40s getting kicked out with his kids against Bury.

The younger ones in general are harmless, and laughable when compared with previous generations. The big difference been tolerance levels and cameras and phones catching bad behaviour in action. I bet a Joe Cooke or Ces Podd would rather have played now than when they did and not just for the money.

I honestly can't remember us changing ends down at Valley Parade The Bradford End was always our home end, I can't remember leaving it, a few opposition fans tried to get in, back in the day you paid on the turnstile and no questions were asked.
