He was the nearest player to the lad who shot at goal, if your going to defend you pick the nearest man up, he was ball watching and by the time the ball had come into the danger area he was yards away from the man he should have picked up.
Do we know McCall's preference in defending is picking your opposite number up, and if so he was no where near Newport's number 6 who as you say is stood on the edge of the box.
Having said the above there are 4 Newport players there not one being picked up, and we wonder why we give cheap goals away

Middleton's priority was their number six and blocking any run he made. Their number 10 wasn't Middleton's responsibility who emerged from the pack and lost his man who was not Middleton. He was only the nearest to him because he at least made an attempt to engage because Novak I think had lost him.

 

Didn't expect to lost to a poor Newport side who played mid week and have a load of injuries.

McCall has a job to do and he has to improve the players he has. He agreed to take the job.

 

As I posted you don't know that way McCall wants us to defend, who's to say he does not go with zonal marking or in the case of their first goal pick up the man nearest to you around the edge of the box.

Exactly if we are marking your position number questions need asking about Reeves, Novak, Middleton. Mottley-Henry and A O'Connor.
Our defending looks even worse here 4 men defending on the near post area.

 

How would he improve them? I told you the results wouldn't improve with Bowyer gone, both are getting what they could/can from a shit squad.

 

1st of all Bowyer created the squad, so I am not having excuses for him.

New managers can improve poor squads. In Mccall's case he has no Vaughan or Doyle but i expect us to at least press more, be more attacking. Work on attacking drills.

We shouldn't be losing Newport with injuries and if we starting accepting defeats like that then we all might as well not renew season tickets and forget about the club.

 

Well it's an improvement on the last squad so that can't be used to beat Bowyer with.

I'll accept the defeat as it is entirely normal, it's just an away loss to another mid-table cack Div4 team.

Good point, he can only mark one of them where were the rest of them? The other half said straight away Middleton should have picked them up. McCall mentioned it in his post match interview about players taking responsibility.

 

Our home record is good and until Christmas we had a good defensive record as well

 

Albeit a scrappy win against the worst team by some distance in the whole football league. God this season has been depressing football wise.

Yeah and McCall should be doing better but Rhodes knew he was coming and signed donkeys.

Not making excuses for McCall but i expect Rhodes to resign if we don't make the play offs.

 

Fordy, I thought Rhodes had only taken the job on a temporary measure to help out and bring some stability following the Rahic era? Didn't he say he was not here long term?
